I can only use the boltshot effectively in conjunction with Promethean vision (which I don't really like to use). But that's just to sneak up on people around corners with a charged blast.

They are currently testing a competitive ranking feature like there was in 3, 343 just wanted to do live testing on it to find flaws and issues with the system before it got rolled out to the public. I'm pumped for it, personally, because that to me the competitive nature of the game is what made me play it for so long.
I started using the grenade perks, where you get grenades off of dead bodies and increase the blast radius and damage, and have been WRECKING with it. In conjunction with Promethean Vision. Highly recommended for smaller maps like Haven & Solace.
That'd be great, as I am with you, I like Halo 3/Reach because of the even footing, learning the maps and weapon placements, etc. It feels a bit cheap to just roll out with a BR - it doesn't feel like Halo.
There was a "cliffhanger ending" on Spartan Ops episode 5. I wonder if that means they're taking a small break.
The Spartan Ops missions are definitely not that fun solo so I'd be up for playing with anyone who's interested.
You can always try joining a game with random players on Heroic difficulty in the current week's episode. That's what I've done every week so far and it's still pretty fun.
Played through Episode 5 yesterday and really enjoyed it. Waves of enemies to deal with and I continue to be very interested in the story thus far. Plus there was at least one achievement that popped up in one of the chapters.
ya solo they are pretty gay. It's also pretty gay (but only for me because I"m behind) that they only have the most recent 5 missions up for random play at a time.
If anyone wants to run through the others let me know.
All the perks seem pretty useful depending on how you play. I am still noobin the dmr/plasma pistol/plasma grenades + dexterity on my BTB maps. Seems like regular grenades + grenade perks would be nasty.
There need to be MORE BTB MAPS. I'm getting bored with them.
Anyway lay out your different loadouts for me. I want to make 5 diverse ones, and ones that are solid enough that I don't need to keep fucking with them depending on which game mode I go into, I can just pick the one for that mode.
Spartan Ops seems to favor the "use two primary weapons" perk. Close-range combat favors vision + invis, but there really isn't a great close-in start weapon available imo, other than the awkward to use boltshot. I'm sure in practice I could get better with that. What combinations have you guys come up with?
