It's hard to quantify what is ridiculous, especially when the art doesn't attempt to adhere to specific rules.
I could nitpick about the sorceress' left shoulder protruding unnaturally, I could complain about the dwarf's improperly aligned head relating to his torso, I could spot problems with the angle of the wizard's jawline. But I didn't do that with the artwork in.. Third Strike, Osman, Street Fighter Alpha 3, a ton of ADK games, a host of Genesis/SNES titles.. and on and on and on.. and it would be fairly hypocritical to do it here.
I'm not so cynical that I can't appreciate an authentic gift to fans of 2D arcade brawlers (and hopefully the content and gameplay follows through), instead of another referential, tongue-in-cheek retro game that's fashionable in modern gaming/pop culture. From that perspective, the portraits in this game should be treated as an afterthought.
I think the only one people are complaining about is the Amazon, and only in that specific portrait. The in-game model looks just fine. It's just that the whole discussion has run way beyond any reasonable bounds at this point.

it can't be too bad. There are already like 400 fan pics for this game.
The gameplay in the trailer consisted mostly of walking around nondescript backgrounds, so it's good we have something to talk about.
Looks good to me.

Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it.
By the way, Amazon is running pre-orders for both versions for $29.99. Vita version here and PS3 version here.
