Hoping KoFXIII makes it to the big-leagues next year, fun to watch even though it takes a million goddamn years to run through a bracket in that game.
a million years? just how many mexicans/chileans are going to evo
Four. That's the problem with KoFXIII.

Too lazy to youtube tag, but I thought it was entertaining.
When I start playing a fighting game I try people out until I find the one that makes the game fun for me. Then I stick with them through nerfs, buffs, whatever. I don't know why there should be any sense of loyalty to a video game character, but deep down I definitely feel negatively about switching characters to follow the tiers. Intellectually I understand and it makes sense and it really doesn't matter at all, but in my gut I think the guy that does it is a prick. So there's that.
Ok so my thoughts on this since I personally think mvc3 is a really well-designed game and that people are really spoiled for thinking otherwise:
1) tiers are fine. It's inevitable that there will be tiers. Balance is so hard to pull off. My only complaint about really good players is that IF they picked some strong but not as easy win characters we might see some truly amazing stuff. For instance -- marlinpie running viper on point -- so good. Why don't we see more vipers? Because she is 50X harder to use than wolverine and he is more effective. So my point: I wish more really technical players would use more of the cast so that we could see the potential of characters that I myself don't have the skills to perfect. Kind of like the way combofiend uses spencer so amazingly or clockwork uses doom so well. But honestly, I don't care about tiers and I don't get salty about people who run them. If you want to win, you pick good characters, if you want to run casuals and just chill, then run your b team. There was a lot of money on the line at evo, hell yeah I would pick phoenix too if I was that good of a player. But sure I would love to have seen some high level Trish or Chris, or other chars I like make it through.
2) Phoenix is good but you gotta play really well to win with her. She is actually a difficult win depending on the team you are playing against. If anything, viscant won because of his superb wesker. He is an expert. He doesn't just push buttons and win. All those resets, setups, mixups etc. these take a lot of skill to pull off. Here's what would happen to an average player with phoenix -- she gets snapped in, mixed up and dies, then your team dies. Rinse. Repeat. The patch will hopefully balance things out so people will work more of the cast and more of it will be playable at higher competition.
Phoenix is a huge pain online. The one issue is even if you're good her mix-ups are solid as fuck. I just super jump. I'd rather get hit by a fireball or two than mixed up on the ground.
