I don't really care for a sequel but it would be nice to see more non-sequel non-adaptations do well.
Perhaps I don't care enough about the business of Hollywood... the fact that I got this was enough. I mean I like this movie a lot. Thought it was entertaining and stuff... but it wasn't Pan's Labyrinth good.
The reason I support this is because it's a huge blockbuster summer movie that isn't a sequel or remake.
If they make a sequel to this it totally ruins that whole idea. Also this movie is not set up for a sequel, maybe a movie that takes place during the early days, but even then that goes against the idea of original blockbuster movies.
I'd like to see maybe side-stories that explore the other pilots more (there were a LOT of them, so there's room for that), but having a non-sequel-non-remake is kind of a treat, it would be nice to just keep doing new things instead.
I want sequels and video games and an Anime anthology tie-in.
Pretty dumb question, Drew...I know you're smarter than this. The easy answer would be because I liked it?
But here's some other reasons. A) I liked Pacific Rim, and B) I'm a fan of Guillermo Del Toro, would like to see both him and his films succeed.
Plus, success at the box office would increase the likelihood of a sequel for Pacific Rim (like YellerDog said, maybe something that explores the stories of the other pilots earlier in the war)...I'm also a big fan of Dredd, and sequels were indeed planned, but the fact that it bombed kinda made those sequels impossible.
PLUS, a non-sequel/remake doing well in theaters would maybe send a message to studios obsessed with remaking every property under the sun that maybe more original properties are worth investing in. Pacific Rim not doing will sends the exact opposite message. I know my wanting a sequel to Pacific Rim kinda goes against this point, but whatever. I like it.
And finally, this tells studios that we want Grown Ups 3 and Despicable Me 3 to get made. That's probably the biggest crime of all.
Grown Ups I understand, but why all the hate for Despicable Me?
I'm rather burnt out on seeing the damn yellow things everywhere, personally. I hear the original's decent, but I'll never know.
The first one's ok. Can't say on the second.
