Anyone else thinkin maybe the colts should offer peyton the interim coaching job this season? You know, after caldwell gets canned?
If Caldwell gets canned, that's bullshit. It's not the coach's fault the GM put together a team that was on the decline with or without Manning and then crippled without him. This isn't the 49ers of the early 90s, where you could plug in a semi-trained monkey at QB, because it was the system.
edit: I guess the counterpoint would be that Caldwell is to Dungy as Barry Switzer was to Jimmy Johnson, where momentum alone made him successful temporarily.
Caldwell needs to take some responsibility, Manning doesn't play defense.
Yeah, but they've been decent on defense until Sunday night. And when you don't move the ball, your defense constantly is both on the field and in bad field position. I, along with a lot of others, don't even think about Addai being out on top of Manning. Plus, Clark has to stay in and block, because the line sucks. They're a mess personnel wise. It's a lot more than Manning. What killed them against New Orleans is that Mathis and Freeney couldn't even tell you what cologne Brees was wearing, let alone touch him.
I agree, I said some, not all. ;)
I'm definitely in favor of Bill Polian being shown the door, because he's the puppet master behind Caldwell and all of this crap is really his design, but Caldwell and the majority of this garbage coaching staff absolutely MUST go. Also because Polian will probably screw up the next HC hire like he screwed it up with Caldwell, and in tandem with that he'll probably want to keep and/or maintain this garbage defensive scheme they've kept "running" for years, in addition of course to his personnel decisions that have left the team as deficient as it is.
But so much of this Colts coaching staff is terrible. Including Caldwell who has no business being a head coach in the NFL. As deficient as the team may be talent-wise, the greater issue is the miserable mismanagement and lack of quality coaching almost across the board.
Ideally I'd like to see Chris Polian go too, to start off with a clean slate, but I can acknowledge the difficulty in finding and hiring a GM. He's a younger GM with experience. So I'd accept keeping him and letting him run his own regime, away from all this stinking garbage.
It is interesting how there aren't 32 guys in the whole damn world that are cut out to be NFL head coaches. It's like the QBs, though I guess a lot of the qualified coaches have cushier gigs now like Ditka, Johnson, Parcells, etc.
Yep. And I don't blame them, since they're likely set for life anyway.
