Net: The owners don't trust themselves.
I don't even think either side wants to play hockey if those are the stumbling blocks between cancelling the season or not
Split the difference on all of those those and play hockey
It's also about, actually a lot of it is about fucking egos and "winning" this standoff. They haven't learned a fucking thing.
I'm really sad I'm going to see yet another Devils legend lose his last year of playing to a work stoppage.
You should be thrilled. Now he goes out on top instead of having the chance to shit the bed.
I don't see how anyone can reasonably say "both sides are to blame" when the owners locked the players out and want to completely change the financial structure to screw the players even though the owners are making more than ever. I mean, one of the owners' rep said that 5-year contracts are "the hill they will die on." After they willingly hand out longer contracts.
This thing is like 75% on owners at least.
It seems to switch back on forth on who is more to blame every week. I thought the last proposal by the owners seemed pretty fair. It seemed like a no brainer. Players should have agreed on 10 yr CBA, and owners should have agreed on 7, 9 year contract lengths. Simple as that. Done.
I just don't see how they could cancel the entire season. League would change drastically when/if they come back. They can't be that stupid.... right?
Why "should" players have agreed on that, and for that matter why "should" owners have agreed on 7-9 year deals? They already said they wouldn't do that. It doesn't matter what they "should" have done.
I say should because you have to give in order to get in negotiations. I'm not saying what the sides want to do. We know what they want, but neither side is or should get everything they want. Honestly, don't see why players didn't just agree on both. 10 yr CBA means no dealing with this shit in at least 10 years, and less than 9% of players have contract lengths over 5 years. I don't know if I buy the whole crushing the middle class the NHLPA says would happen with 5 yr contract lengths. Of course none of this matters. Both sides are going to hold on till the last minute in order to try and get the best deal possible. I'm hearing first or second week of Jan being the final push. By early to mid Jan, we will know if there will be some form of a season or not.
