I watched this movie two nights ago & it is one of the coolest films I have ever seen. I dig Linklater's stuff & I'm a big fan of Slacker, & it was nice to see him doing more stuff with some of the old cast. I just can't say enough about all of the thoughts & Ideas in the film, not to mention the visual style. My favorite of 02 so far.
So, who eles has seen it & what are your thoughts.

Eh, there was a thread about this movie put up recently. I didn't come out in 02 if you mean favorite movie that has come out this year (unless you mean on dvd...). I liked Slacker better, I didn't like how in Waking Life the the rants would be just thrown at you out of context, so some of it is just rambling. Maybe I'll like it more when I see it on dvd.

What's this 'Slacker' movie all about?
Its Linklaters 1990 movie that is the basis for Waking Life. He just goes around Austin and observes various people. Its been years since I've seen it, but I liked it more than Waking Life.

The rants are all taking place in dreams, there doesn't have to be context. They do have context in the way that they all have to do with the human condition in some way. You get insightful conversations on God, evolution, Film, & dreams from the intelligent people, hateful rants from the angry stupid ones(like the red inmate)& goofy ones from the guy who can have any kind of sex he wants in dreams. I just love the visual style & I really enjoyed some of the thoughts put down on film here.
Oh, & my sig is from a song on one of the new albums I talked about in the Indie rock thread. I'm not gonna tell until someone guesses. Ichabod is in the lead with 10 points:lol:

Waking Life is fantastic. One of my favorite films ever. I dig Slacker, but Waking Life is like a much more refined Slacker, so I have to say I prefer Waking Life. The one thing I like more about Slacker is that the people you encounter are much more interesting, because they are actually doing stuff instead of just talking. Like the guy with tons of TV sets. Or the hit and run.
Both are great films, and if you like one you should like the other. I'd also say Before Sunrise is the same type of film, so anyone who hasn't seen it should check it out as well.
Don't do yourself the disservice of watching the Pan+Scan VHS edition!
Waking Life needs to be seen on the bigscreen, or at least a primo-DVD larger-than-life widescreen set-up.
I saw it three times in the theatre, but was bored to tears watching it on a mono-19" TV from the VHS tape (-it also had to do with the particular company that night...)
If you can appretiate Waking Life, I highly reccomend a book titled The Art of the Motor by Paul Virilio. Buy it. Lot's of ideas of the human condition and the effects of the mechinzation revolution, -lots of thought toward the camera, and the mediatization of cultures. Lots of quotes and namedropping too. Buy an extra copy for your local school library too!
I really enjoyed it... I saw it at a film festival last year and was completely enthralled.
I ended up with a huge canvas banner of the movie poster, too!
