So that's $1 I'll never get back. I checked out Pinball Arcade on iPad, and while it looks really nice, it won't be replacing the 360 version any time soon. It just feels awkward to control with the touch screen. Oh well, I was hoping to get a good look at the tables not available on XBLA yet, but I'll wait instead.

Nope, just the one table- Tales of the Arabian Nights. All the rest cost various prices, but $1 to test it out with seemed fine. Verdict- Meh.

I play it vert on the Vita which forces you to use the touch screen. It sucks but I'm used to it now. It must at least look great on the big iPad screen.
It looks phenomenal, even better than on 360. I just don't enjoy holding the pad and using the both hands for the touch screen, left and right side flippers. Not sure what shakes the table, but I'm unimpressed enough with it already that I'm not bothering to find out. Obviously, this one is down to personal preference, and on an iPhone instead of a bulkier iPad it's probably fine.

I've played on my Android phone and tablet and I enjoy it... but I also don't take it super seriously. I'm pretty sure shaking the table is literally shaking your phone or tablet.Quote:

Yes, glad I'm not the only one (although I knew I wasn't, as these bugs have been reported elsewhere). It's very frustrating.
That suuuuucks. I think I'm shelving this scorechase until a patch comes out. Three of the four tables have serious gamebreaking issues. And balls warping through flippers on all games is annoying anyway.Quote:

The latest update for the Pinball Arcade Kickstarter says that the 360 version is now a go for the reward tier. If you have the game on 360 and pledge $10, you can have Twilight Zone on 360.

While I'm for this, I'm curious if they really thought this through when they planned this whole thing. Their goal, as they stated, was to release tables "for years". Twilight Zone isn't even close to being the only table with multiple licenses. Are they going to have to go through this rigmarole every time they want to recreate one of these tables? They could simply stick to originals, which there are many good ones, but this will severely limit the scope of what they can release.....especially if they plan to do more Stern tables, as almost ALL of them are based on some licensed property.
I am sure it will be easier for them on some of the licensed stuff, its just EVERYONE was screaming for Twilight Zone, and CBS were greedy bastards.Quote:

Plus there's a ton of non-licensed tables to port. I could spend hours linking stuff off the Pinball Database, including some of the clunkier 60s - 70s boards that have their own set of charms.

I'm beginning to think XBLA was the wrong choice for platform. Everyone but 360 has the new tables, and that includes PS3. Competing for high score against a full leaderboard is nice, of course, but the XBLA version is six tables behind and counting.

Agreed on last 2 posts. I can't believe I'm stuck playing the new tables on my friends phone while I get nothing on Xbox. I paid 10 bucks for 4 tables even though I have the HOF collection on disk and paid the same price. The bastards are making it hard to support them.
This, along with the whole kickstarter licensing fund still only makes me believe that they were a bit overambitious with this project. Sad thing for me was that I always planned to get this on the PS3, but decided on the 360 version for the score runs.
The stagnation on this has got me playing Pinball FX again (some pretty decent new tables were just released), something I mentioned I wasn't going to do.
XBLA has a longer "Approval" process and it seems MS is really making things harder lately. I understand why it is in place but they make the platform less and less desirable. XBLA is a whole different beast than it was a few years ago and that's not all for the better.
That's pretty much exactly it. The iOS/Android releases are fast and zippy, exactly as promised. PSN is lagging a bit, but not unreasonably so. I've got no idea what the PC holdup is, although I understand trying to get it on Steam is being a problem. XBLA, sadly, is turning into a letdown. Jump through hoops and wait months for approval, and you'll still get stuff like the Fez patch that corrupts saves. It's not impressive.

Been bouncing back between FX2 and Arcade.
3 360 updates on P.Arcade. They fixed the leaderboards and table breaking glitches (as far as I can see). The flipper warp issue is still happening. Once per two plays now.
P.Arcade on Android. They broke their leaderboard again by adding alternatives to facebook. Framerate issues still make things pretty bad. But having 12 tables is soooo good.
I guess I'm allowing myself to get raped by Farside because I've bought nothing else in months. Just dropped for an Ouya so I may as well dev my own shit before giving up on the gamings.
FX2. Just playing the tables I haven't beaten Loop 1 on. I've left some new scores to beat for whoever.
I play Pinball Arcade on 360 too, but have only run across the ball warping through the flipper once or twice. I also swear it happened on a real-life physical pinball machine last week, though.
Loving Bride of Pinbot. It's a really simple layout but that's working for me at the moment.
Anyone else think the castle gate in Medieval Madness is harder to hit in the game than on the actual table?

Yeah. The gate and the trolls are waaay more difficult than they ever should be. Trolls are the easiest thing in the world in real life. These just bounce the ball down the middle or outlanes every other hit. I will not even activate Trolls until they're lit before a multiball madness on this digital version.Quote:

Also: it doesn't look like Cirqus Voltaire is using the newest ROMS. There was an update released a few years ago that had some scoring changes, added some new modes, and the biggest addition: it allowed you to revive ended multiballs if you started a new one within a few seconds of the old one ending. That made it possible to have 4 different multiballs active simultaneously. Too bad.

Gorgar and Monster Bash are up on the console rev...at least on XB360. I haven't played the game in about a month, so not sure how long they've been available.
I'm not a big fan of Gorgar. I don't recall ever playing Monster Bash, I might have to check it out.
Gorgar is the machine I've played the most in my life as my grandparents owned a campground that had an arcade that I would get to use on rainy days.
For some strange reason, I like Gorgar. There's a simple charm to it, even though its gutters seem to be huge.

Star Trek is funded on Kickstarter, and they also announced they've got both Elvira pinballs on the way.
I think I'm going to hold off for a bit on any new tables and see how the eventual PC version turns out. The 360's approval process is taking way too long to allow updates that come out much more quickly on other systems. Same with patching the game.

I learned why the ball passes through flippers.
The flippers are missing hitbox/collision data in certain frames in-between being up and down. That's why it mostly happens when flippers are being flipped together miliseconds apart.
The game goes retarded bugged if you tilt it with balls remaining; at least on Machine anyway.
Also, I am top of my friends list on all 360 PA tables, if that irks anybody.

Zen Pinball 2 being released has got me back into score wars with my buddies so I ended up picking up the rest of the tables I hadn't before, Pinballistic, and this. Have lots of tables to learn and scores to beat now! I do like how this is basically what the retail release should have been (and hell, has more trophies) so I'm all for the price of admission here.

I still think that they were a bit overambitious with this project. I wonder if they were cognizant of the licensing red tape when they conceived the idea of table recreations. I do give them accolades for trying, though.
I originally planned to buy every table they created regardless of what it was, but due to the constant bugs, and delays on Live (no fault of their own, obviously), my enthusiasm has been tempered a bit. This is probably due to me playing a ton of tables on the PinMAME project for almost a decade already. I'm definitely back in when some of my favorite tables from the early to mid 90's are recreated. Hopefully the flipper issue will be sorted out. (ironically, PinMAME had a similar bug with its flippers where the program only recognized the flippers being in a binary state of "up", and "down". If you flipped at the exact moment the ball was at a certain place, it would go through the flippers) I do wish that Pinball Arcade allowed access to the operator's menu like PinMAME, however.
Even though I sound negative, Pinball FX/Pro Pinball remake, this project, and other events that are happening make me confident that the pinball industry is experiencing a slow resurgence. Not only is Stern increasing their output, but there's actually new manufacturers appearing, such as Jersey Jack Pinball , Heighway Pinball, and a company called Multimorphic that is creating high-tech modular tables that have playfields and rules that can be changed at will by the owner/operator. All of this makes me quite happy.
Table Pack #7: Scared Stiff™ and Big Shot™ are now on Android and iOS and Table Pack 6: Elvira and the Party Monsters™ and No Good Gofers™ will be coming to PS3/Vita with today's update. The email I got from them also stated "Table Pack 5: Harley-Davidson®, Third Edition and Taxi™ will appear in the menu with this update. Harley and Taxi are currently expected to be released in North America on Nov. 6th, so those two tables may not be available until then even though they appear in the menu now."
It also said that Xbox 360 they want to get updated ASAP and that it has nothing to do with MS's certification but the fact that they are not the publisher on that platform and their publisher (Crave) filed for bankruptcy so that has delayed a ton.
"FarSight offers its apologies for the delays in releasing additional content for the Xbox 360 of Pinball Arcade. We want to assure 360 players that these delays are temporary and we fully intend to continue supporting this console. The issues are not the fault of Microsoft nor are they due to the title update procedure. The 360 is the only platform that we cannot publish on directly. Selling digital content requires a current Publishing License Agreement (PLA) with Microsoft to release games. We are working through complications regarding our publisher Crave Entertainment filing bankruptcy. At this moment, we are not able to submit new content. However, we expect to start rolling out the updates shortly and catch the Table Pack releases on 360 up to the other platforms within a few months."

An update was released on the PS3 version that changes the interface. Now, new tables are listed separately from ones you own.
... and I still don't have my Twilight Zone table despite emails, Facebook comments, and every other method I can think of. Seriously, fuck this company. The next time they come asking for Kickstarter money, I'm kicking them to the curb.
I got my code for Star Trek (I asked for a PSN code there) but I've also been unable to get a reply from anyone about switching my 360 Twilight Zone code for a PSN one. Sucks, but it's something they really should address with the state of the 360 version.
They haven't said squat about Xbox releases, and their communication is just shit. They sent out the codes almost two months ago and I still don't have mine. I've emailed them, messaged and commented on Facebook, etc. It's just sloppy, irresponsible bullshit, and I will never fund another one of their projects.

Yeah, I'm passing on any future FarSight Kickstarters too. I'll happily buy, but they're incapable of running a Kickstarter, period. A single guy coding on his own time can maintain communication and distribution, but a company with several employees can't?

They had a small setup at the Midwest Classic last weekend. I got zero answers about future 360 releases. They acted dumbfound when I even asked then tried to sell me on the iOS or Android versions.
I read some info about the publishing issues on the pinball arcade fans forums here. They found a new publisher, but are having issues because of Crave going bankrupt.
Farsight's official statement:
"We are still waiting for the bankruptcy judge to rule that the new publisher take over our original contract with Crave. That is what is holding the whole process up, and we don't know when they will because they keep telling us 'soon'. We are hoping for this to be settled and over with, as we want to put everything out on the 360 asap, not to mention the kickstarter backers that we owe tables to. Until the judge comes back and rules one way or the other, we're stuck in the middle."

The Star Wars tables on PFX2 are actually pretty decent. Civil War, however, blows.
So hey, this game is free for PS+ right now and they put up a bundle pack with all the "Season One" tables. 22 tables for $30 is a pretty dang good deal, and it gets you both PS3 and Vita versions of everything.
Now I'm upset I stated re-buying what I had on 360 on PSN two months ago.
I'm going to wait for the PC release before I actually buy any tables.
Ditto. It's a tough call because of Cross Buy, but I think I'd still rather have indefinite access than access tied to two systems.
PS3 is finishing up this year so I'm waiting for PC. My PC isn't going anywhere.

Got the Pinball Arcade beta on Steam last night. It's looking fairly decent but there's obviously a way to go. So far I'm pretty happy just throwing the ball around and checking out all the tables, and dreading losing beta access and how much it's going to run to buy the whole thing.

I decided to stick with PSN. PS3/Vita cross-buy was the decision maker.

Word on tate is that it's a post-launch update. Apparently bug-testing the dozens of tables is where their attention has been, and once the game is out and any post-launch bugs squashed, they'll get on to sorting out extra features like tate.

4 days late, because Pinball Arcade, but it's finally out on PC. Too bad I don't have a spare $90 for Pro versions of both seasons at the moment. Ah well, that just means I have to spend more time with the three tables I already own rather than flitting from one to another without developing any real skill.

I am really unhappy about the way all the purchases are stuffed away inside the game rather than being on the Steam store. There's a forum post suggesting that Valve told them to do this, but I have a hard time believing that considering the amount and bundle complexity of DLC for games like RailWorks, Civilization V, and Sleeping Dogs.
At any rate, this basically guarantees that there will never be a sale on tables. Which is a shame.
Hadn't really thought about that, honestly. I like Pinball Arcade enough that I was planning on paying full price for the season packs. It's a bit too new on PC to be part of the holiday sales anyway.

This game could look a lot better than it does.
First, Release news: Table Packs 19 (Class Of 1812 And Victory) and 20 (Cue Ball Wizard And El Dorado City Of Gold) of this were released on PS3 and Vita today. Hurray!
Second, a request: could some Pinball Wyzzrd out there please tell me why anybody should pay $10 extra for Pro mode? Now that I have a Vita, I'm really conflicted about buying this because I can't decide to upgrade the whole thing to Pro later without plunking down a hefty sack o' quarters.
This is pure conjecture, but I assume that "Pro Mode" allows access to the operator's menu that allows changes to game parameters. It may also allow for some values to be stored in memory between times the game is turned off. Some games are supposed to have stored and/or cumulative values that's held between games ( Vacation Jackpot for White Water, Dude-O-Meter on Dr. Dude). All of those values reset if you turn the game off in these simulations. I think it's a little sleazy to have these functions behind a paywall (if these are actually what's unlocked).
Also: Gottlieb tables....:yuck:
I haven't tried them all, but the Kindle HDX rev is very good. Can't imagine there's any other version that is faster or even better looking. Also, while there's nothing wrong with playing it on PC, pinball really fits the gaming bill for a mobile device. Still prefer some of the Zen tables, though.Quote:
