Grand Theft Auto 5

I have to say the controls in this game are really bad. Not in terms of you ability to manipulate the character, but in terms of all the arcane button combinations you need to press to do very specific things in unintuitive ways, rather than just a generic context-sensitive "do stuff" button. If I'm sitting too far away from the screen to read the little prompt, I'm fucked. Sometimes I have to press right on the d-pad, sometimes down, sometimes I tap a button, sometimes I hold it. It's just not well designed or intuitive.

That's probably because half a billion people worked on it.

Yeah, right on the dpad seems the be the usualy go-to button until they tell you to tap left instead. Little weird.

And why are we still holding A to run and then mashing it to sprint?

That shit is the worst.

The one that struck me the most as flat-out stupid was that swimming above and underwater have totally different controls, with a button to toggle between them. This is the kind of shit that keeps casual gamers from getting into real games.

I've seen that in other games. I don't mind that. Sometimes I just want to point and go when I'm above the surface so that swimming across something quickly isn't a whole fucking production, but I want more control when it's time to dive in and do some shit. I actually like that.

How in the world did you get that from what I wrote? I meant keeping them out of real games is a feature. We don't need the lowest common denominator getting even lower.

Because real games are too complicated (or seem too complicated to casuals) it creates a market where people make dumb, easy games for them. So if real games were more intuitive that market might not exist because everyone would be playing the good games?

I don't buy it.
