Well, dead grandma money is the icing. We're using plenty of our own as well. It just would have taken us a year longer if we didn't get that.

I don't borrow money, unless it's like $20 in drinking money until we hit a bank machine., but I've made the mistake of lending money to friends and family.
I've always been repaid, but never on time.
It's such a piss off when someone who owes me money can afford to spend thousands of dollars on toys, but can't be bothered to pay me the money they owe me, even when I'm struggling to feed myself.
I had to borrow a little over a grand from my parents when I was 20 to pay off a credit card I maxed out. I think I only paid them back about half of it. They refused to take anything else after they ended up getting large chunk of change from my Dad's 15% of the gravel pit when it was sold.
I've also lost out on about $500 I loaned to my best friend when I was 19. That was an expensive way to learn never to loan a friend anything I need back. I almost never talk to the guy anymore, but mainly because he was a douche about it after the fact.
And right now I owe someone over $5000 for a credit card. Of course the debt has been sold and moved around about 20 times since it went to collections over 2 years ago. I don't plan on ever paying it back.
Never lend money to someone you're dating. They will never give you that change back.
I've probably wracked up close to $2,000 I owe my mom since I turned 18. When I was younger, I was especially bad with my money and now I'm in a shitty situation of my wife and I making $25,000 less than last year because of some unexpected circumstances. Our super sweet "luxury" apartment isn't so affordable anymore so I recently had to borrow some money from my mom for a needed dental operation (though I'm already paying her back). A lot of this may not be paid back (at least anytime soon) but I don't think she ever expected to be. The reason I always went to her was because she's done well with her money and has a TON of available credit.
I feel shitty about it. Some people do well enough with their money and/or make enough and never need to borrow anything. A lot of people don't. I'm sure I'll end up "lending" just as much money to my own kids some day. Circle of life.

Nash how do you pay people back when they buy your dinner? Do you schedule another date at a place that takes cards?
