You didn't need to build a new computer, a new video card would have been fine. Even the i7 Nehalems are more than capable.
And of course, more RAM. 8 megs isn't enough.
BTW I built a computer once and it sucks. I'll do it again soon-ish but I think everyone who says how awesome it is on NeoGAF or Reddit are 19 year olds with 23 hours of free time a day.
Or you're a hardware nerd and read about this shit everyday.
I love technology, but fuck if I didn't have to relearn everything before buying parts. It was made even worse because I built mine to allow me to boot Mac OS if I so wanted.
Does Newegg have a 'build computer' option yet where they won't let you buy anything that doesn't work together? They really should.
I've built enough PC's to know how to get through it, but it can be a pain is the ass sometimes because the physical standards for components are so incomplete. Extra long video cards, weird fan placement, poor motherboard layout, and a million other things can ruin your day.
If you can afford premium components, then you don't have to deal with as much shit, but then you could probably afford to just have it built by someone else.
Yea, that's another option. I may just pay a company to build it. *puts on monocle*
not newegg, but http://pcpartpicker.com/
I usually pick a mobo+processor combo since bundles are usually cheaper and it makes sure they're compatible, since I'm lazy and hate making sure what's the right socket and such. Pick up some OEM RAM and a video card and then spend like an hour piecing it together. Granted, if you get an issue at this point and it doesn't start or whatever then troubleshooting can be a pain in the ass, especially if you don't have other parts to swap in to narrow it down. In that regard it's nice just buying a system and having it work and if it doesn't then you can hand it back to the company and tell them to fix their shit.
Anyone want to sell me a wifi card? It is, apparently, 2002 still.
