Mellow mushroom owns. IN THE SOUTH
its ok. But that is a chain.
Forgettable places recommended to me by locals i throughout the coastal states. I've never been to your state.
When my family comes up from down south they lose their shit over decent/average Jersey pizza, too.
The barbecue is great though. At this point in my life, if I'm traveling, I try to eat what's good there, rather than an imitation of what's good back home.
How terrible for them.
I can't speak for the whole south, but in my neck of the woods good pizza places don't last too long. It's usually the same story, good cook (either from Italy on New York/New Jersey) decides to bring some yummy pizza here. Pizza is yummy! The locals don't like yummy, so only 5 people go there and the rest go do Dominos or Cicis or some shit like that. Place closes in 6 months, meanwhile Cicis is packed all the time.
Only very near suburbs for cheesesteaks, though. It is shocking and depressing how small the area is where you can get an even halfway decent cheesesteak.
And yes, I know there are a couple very, very rare exception outside of the Philadelphia area. Whatever. The fact is I live an hour and a half from Philly and would have to drive at least an hour to even get passable cheesesteak, which is depressing for any Philadelphian. It's the only food I know that is that nationally famous, but that local.
can you guys pizza get along?
