After searching multiple times, it's come to my attention that there isn't a thread for Devil Survivor, the SMT Strategy RPGs on DS (With a 3DS port that doesn't use the 3D).
I'm really impressed with the game, and am on Day 6 of 7, where all the endings are becoming visible, a bunch of little option plots are open to take advantage of, and the decisions have a huge amount of weight to them.
The core gameplay itself is all right; for a strategy RPG it lacks value in it's character positioning outside of "Being just out of the enemies range" and "Don't let a ton of enemies surround you (Except when you're super powerful)".
It's a lot like SMT, dark overtones, demons and god, cults, children, etc etc. It does lack some of the overall cheapness of other Megaten games, as there are no instant kill spells (But you will find yourself saying fuck you to every enemy that tries to petrify your whole team). Status effects like Mute and Petrify are devastating though, and there are no real items or anything to equip to protect yourself, so you just need a good team.
I've found it a little easier than the other games, but it does have it's share of really difficult fights. Especially now towards the end I'm finding a few of the optional side story fights to be rough.
Anyways key points, this game is really good, moves at a much better pace than most the Megaten games, the characters are pretty fantastic, though Dolly and Yuzu's voice acting in the 3DS version leave much to be desired.
One of the best things about this game in comparison to the others though, is how well fusion works. Instead of having to play the magic guessing game, or go look at a faq to find out what demon's you're missing, there's a search function! So if you're one of those people who want them all, it's easy to see which one's you've missed!
Also the main characters get skills based on what they learn from killing an enemy in battle, you crack their skills, add them to your list of skills and they can be assigned to a character (But only one character can have a certain skill).
If you have a 3DS and need more games to play on it, I would definitely recommend Overclocked!
On that note: Devil Survivor 2 comes out in February, the game takes place in a wider area (All of Japan instead of just Tokyo), and is involving basically social links light from the Persona 3 and 4 games. To be honest, I don't feel the games need that, but what the hell; I'm enjoying the first game that I'm really looking forward to it. The fact that it's just normal DS is pretty fantastic too.
Anyways cliff notes: Want a good SMT? Picked up Devil Survivor or Overclocked.

I have this on DS...planning on playing through it after I finish Radiant Historia. I like the character designs and the overall premise.

If anyone is interested in SMT and has a choice between playing the DS version and Overclocked, pick Overclocked. It has a lot more content, not just voice acting.
I have this problem with SMT games. Every so often I run into a particular battle/mission/whatever that is just incredibly frustrating, to the point where I stop playing for a while. I've reached that point with Overclocked. I'm at day 3, on the mission where I have to kill more demons than the other team in order to progress. And the other team is just way better at killing demons than me. Try as I might, I can't beat them. I really like the game but this mission is just really annoying.

Wendigo murdered me and I haven't been back since. I'm not sure why I didn't resolve to take him down like I did with Matador. I like what I played though!
In other news, what the hell is wrong with these SRPG developers that design escort missions around protecting suicidal AI? Hell, even if the AI isn't suicidal it's still the worst thing ever. Protection missions are OK, just let me control the stupid unit.
Which reminds me, holy Christ I wanted to murder everyone involved with the Tactics Ogre remake. They had a chance to correct the wrongs of the past! And they FAILED.

Yeah that's one of the flaws I forgot to mention, there are A LOT of save people missions. Most aren't too bad though!
Except I have one side mission, where I defeated the rough boss, and killed all except on person! The person I was saving went to attack him and almost died on the first time. And with having a demon that allows him to attack twice, ATTACKED AGAIN AND DIED! I HAD WON YOU FUCK!

I know the mission you're talking about, and I don't really remember having a problem with it. Just make sure you have a demon with Devil speed and then another with flight. If your team is well balanced you should be able to just wipe out each opposing team in a turn or two. Also rush towards one of them, and finish off a team they have weakened! You only have to beat 4 demons.

Finally started playing Devil Survivor Overclocked - my first MegaTen game actually - and am really enjoying it so far.
Currently at 14:30 on the 1st day, having recently unlocked demon fusions. The story is pretty interesting, especially with the individual death clocks, and I'm really digging the combat and its structure.

Overclocked was good, I just wish it hadn't required so much of my time. 40 hours would've been perfect. 80 hours? Not so much.

If you ask me RPGs should be, like, 20 hours tops. Just get rid of all the bullshit filler.
Vandal Hearts was one of the best SRPGs ever and it probably took me 15 hours or less to beat it. Quality over quantity, nigga.

Tales of Phantasia is like 23 hours. That felt about right to me.
