I was going to be sad that this got announced right after I finally bought DS2, but I'm not really getting into it. I got into Persona back in the day and still enjoyed DDS aside from the encounter rate, but I think this series just doesn't click with me anymore.

Persona 3/fez/ portable, persona 4/ golden, and SMT DS/ overclocked taught you nothing.
I wish I could find these quotes but I'm pretty sure that Atlus was very clear that P4FES/DS2:Overclocked would never be released. I can kind of understand the comment for Persona 4 since Golden switched from console to handheld but they flat out lied about Devil Survivor 2.
Will buy this, and hopefully there's a DS3 sometime in the future.

Yeah, Ed, I definitely remember them saying specifically that there wouldn't be a DS 2 special edition.
Keep in mind when that might have been. Devil Survivor 2 came out in Japan in July 2011, and then Feb 2012 in NA.
Since that time, the Persona 4 anime seems to have been successful, so now they're launching the Devil Survivor 2 anime with the improved 3DS port/remake coming out in Japan sometime this summer.
Maybe they already knew then, maybe not.
I remember them saying specifically there wouldn't be an updated Persona 4 for PS2 a la P3: FES... and there wasn't. It was on Vita instead. Perhaps that's what y'all are recalling.
