But it isn't so I am glad they didn't
You say it isn't even though it is so I'm sad you're glad they didn't
I just finished this and I really enjoyed it. I can see why people who don't enjoy stealth games wouldn't like it though. It is the first game that I've finished this year. Everything else I've played hasn't held my interest but this sure did.
I watched my friend play this game for perhaps three hours.
It definitely has some interesting story elements (better than expected! I like the editing/flow of scenes) and it is absolutely gorgeous... one of the best looking games out there. The acting's solid, too, the characters feel like characters. The variety of scenes that I saw was cool.
The major bummer for me was how generic the actual gameplay seemed. I realize that it probably wasn't as high on their list to introduce super innovative gameplay as it was to kick cinematic fidelity up a notch. I guess it is adequate enough. I think I had more fun watching than playing, though. It's an above-average story (and execution thereof) for a video game but as a game, it seems very average.
I understand that there are some variations on the basic gameplay later in the game, and the story takes a few interesting turns. I only know that because I guess I wasn't really vested enough to care if my friend told me about the ending or not... I don't see myself wanting to pick it up in the future.
Interesting stuff, but hardly 10/10 IMO. At least re: being a "video game."
I just fixed my ps3, so I was looking for a good game to play. I was really interested in this, but the second thing listed online is "DLC, more maps, more story, more money".
Can anyone let me know spoiler free if the DLC is basically required for the full story here?
The best of the stealth genre, ie the OG Splinter Cells and Thiefs, play better than this game. This was stealth done fairly well but still aggravating at times.
None of it has been released yet, so you can definitely get the whole story without the DLC or even the online pass.
So this game crashes my 80gb BC ps3. Spent all weekend working on the system, took it all apart, applied new thermal paste, etc. It seemed to work for everything up to a certain point 3 hours in, so I looked it up, and apparently its just a thing that happens. No current fix.

Pretty upset. Could be the latest ps3 firmware. Either way, waste of my weekend.
edit- stubborn, so I kept looking into this, and in a random youtube video, a guy mentioned that he got farther.. by turning off the flashlight. So I turned off the flashlight and stumbled around the dark, and the game did not crash. I guess I'll take it.
Just finished the single player. This game got fucking dark. Well it wasn't peaches and rainbows to begin with, but shit.
felt very much like a modern day Red Dead Redemption at times.
This game was very very good. I played through normal then survivor. I didn't think there was a problem with the gameplay at all, but I do enjoy stealth.
The story and characters were incredible, as everyone already said. The only extra thing I would add is the combat system is fairly simple, but works well. It's also very exploitable. Death means nothing because you come right back at the last checkpoint, and at any point you can just restart an encounter to do it the way you want. However, it still takes enough effort that it feels satisfying when you finish.
I can see why people would rate this as the best game on PS3. It is really a great game.
