well soccer mom hasn't even played the game yet so that's par for the course.
But I'm loving everything about the gameplay and don't agree with anyone that even suggests that this would be better as a movie. Loving the stealth, or more, loving being able to use stealth effectively as a means to conserve supplies and then fend for myself once shit gets out of hand. Loving the supply/inventory management and actually being rewarded for scavenging for supplies and how it actually makes sense in the setting to do so. Yeah, pistols kind of suck but it feels right to me, where I depend on the shotgun/hunting rifle to get me out of hairy situations and can't just rapid-fire headshot everything with the shitty pistols.
Yeah, I like it a lot.
I'll admit that the game does pick up a bit once you get the shotgun. I'm about 43% in right now, and the game gets a little better as you find more weapons and upgrade them accordingly. It's still not a 10 though. If I had to assign a numerical score to this game, there really isn't anything in it that would inspire me to give it more than an 8 at the very most. I really applaud Naughty Dog for trying something different though. Let's face it, they could have very easily just made this an "Uncharted clone with Zombies", and this is far from that. Ironically though, I would still enjoy playing an Uncharted clone with zombies, more than this.
I honestly think that my enjoyment of the game is slightly deterred by the amount of stealth in the game though. Admittedly, I absolutely suck at stealth, in any game, and it's one of my least favorite game play styles imaginable. So, if anybody is on the fence about this game, and you're not a fan of stealth, I suggest waiting for a price drop (or just rent it), because stealth is a necessity in many areas of the game. If you're not using stealth, enjoy viewing the "game over" screen dozens of times over, while random zombies "one hit kill" you by chewing on your jugular.
TNL - If it's not Rez it's just not good enough.
What about Smashing Drive?
If someone was to make a game about TNL, it would also be called The Last of Us
