I've been playing FF7 Crisis Core, I'm really enjoying how ridiculous this game is. It's better than I was expecting, even if normal difficulty is stupidly easy. I don't remember FF7 that well since it's been years, so I'm probably missing a lot of the fan service.
Metroid II (Game Boy)
Goddamn this game is brutal. There's no world map, save points are sparse, and most of the environments look the same due to the Game Boy's shitty graphics.
You spend a lot of time wondering where exactly you are and where you should be going. However, I'm soldiering through it and am about halfway through the game (22 out of 40 Metroids killed). I've had this game for like 20 years now, and this is the furthest I've ever gotten lol
It is funny though how many secret alcoves I remember from playing it many years back.
The soundtrack is awesome -- maybe the best in the series? And it has a really nice atmosphere once you set the Game Boy color palette up right.
I did a little bit, but I didn't use a guide so I never got anything really awesome. Most of what I did was combine status materia with regular materia, so lightning would also cast blind, or something like that. Also, I merged same materias together to make them more powerful.
The best thing I did was merge HP ups with one the attack materias, it eventuall gave me +90% HP.
Finished off the Halo franchise after completing Reach (not playing Wars or Anniversary). I even watched Halo Legends on Blu-ray (much much better in Japanese for the non-history episodes).
Also, finished all of the games in Irem's Spartan X (aka Kung Fu Master) series and now playing games that it inspired like Dragon Wang and The Kung Fu (aka China Warrior).
I'll get back to the Batman games soon...
I rented Soul Calibur V over the weekend and made a bunch of goober-ass characters. Netcode is a lot better, and my friends are kinda into the game, so I might wind up buying it.
Other than that, I've been alternating between just about beating Rough World and being terrible at Steel Battalion mission 7.
Threw in Demon's Souls on a whim the other night, did a quick search and found out how to do the upgrades and what the different uses for boss souls are and stuff, made a couple of changes to a character I had started last year and all of a sudden I beat Flamelurker, Penetrator, Dragon God, and made some good headway into doing several other things that I was never able to do before. I think it's kinda cool that the online still seems very active, I was able to summon once and get summoned to help out like 6 times in other people's games, and there's no shortage of messages and people's ghosts wandering around. It feels good to finally start getting the hang of this game after so long. Hopefully by the time I finish this they'll be ready to give us a new one (or at least the DLC for Dark).
Dino Crisis (Dreamcast)
What a lazy port by Capcom. :(
The graphics seem barely touched up from the PSX version and the damn thing doesn't even control with the Dreamcast analog stick! You have to use the d-pad. Oh well, once you get used to the N64-quality graphics and shit controls, it's a pretty sweet game so far. Good tension in the atmosphere, very similar to Jurassic Park 1 (the movie), complete with stereotypical angry black man sidekick. Velociraptors are a much better adversary than zombies. So far I like it better than Code Veronica and RE 2, but not better than RE 1 or RE 4. I will probably play RE 3 next after beating this.
I finished Ys 1 in the PSP Ys Chronicles. I like how in this version (as opposed to the TG16 CD) it really felt like its own complete game, with boss, ending, and credits. The TG version really treated Ys 1 and 2 as one game.
Also... the game is kinda hard! It's mostly easy until the last tower, then even with max level and armor the bosses still beat your ass.
