I can't download it via the steam app so that it's downloaded and installed when I get home from work tonight.
That makes me very sad. :(

Yep, I still like that Human Revolution composer.
This is the tutorial, by the way. The vast majority of the missions aren't scripted like this.
I didn't like how it blocked off basic camera rotation until the tutorial got to that part.
I also don't particularly like the soldier voices. It's weird having a Russian with a midwest accent. Thankfully, you can flip that off in the menu.
I liked pretty much everything else! Can't wait!
Bestbuy.com is offering a $15 gift card with the pre-order of XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
One thing I really liked from various interviews:
The AI does not cheat.
I mean, enemy count and damage values are boosted at higher difficulty levels but the AI troops will not know where your players are unless they see or hear you.
You can also switch soldier voices at the base. I'm not sure how many accents are covered, though.
edit: After playing through the demo, it's clear that the game makes more sense on a controller than a mouse + keyboard. The PC-specific UI is a nice touch but there are a bunch of strange UI decisions that reveal the game's roots.
FOR EXAMPLE: You can't select a building in your base by clicking on it even if you're zoomed in so that it's covering 3/4 of your screen. You have to find the menu option all the way at the top or use a keyboard shortcut.
Unless there's a significant update, I think I'mma play on a controller.
The pre-load has begun.
RPS review: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/10/08/xcom-review/
Between this and Dishonored, best week ever.Quote:
So here’s the thing: were one to make a list of X-COM’s features and compare XCOM against them, it could only come up short. On paper, it would look like a disservice. I expect reams and reams of commentary from The Faithful about why this isn’t here or why does this happen or why does this not happen. Some of those gripes I share, but most I do not.
If you are inclined to feel that there is simply no good reason to not replicate all that made X-COM great, I am inclined to believe that you simply will not abide XCOM, with all its alterations, omissions and new explorations.
I am even more inclined to believe that you’d be denying yourself a perfectly good time and what is for me comfortably the most absorbing and thrilling strategy game I’ve played in years. (I do not use that silly word ‘thrilling’ lightly, but I’ll come back to that later.) I’ve been desperately worried about the game right up until the point that I played it. When I played it, I played it for some 50 hours and counting. I regret none of that time, I have missed showers, meals and Quality Time with girlfriend, cat and Dishonored in order to obtain it and I want to spend even more of it in XCOM instead of writing these damnable words.
Game looks great
This week is awesome and then Doom BFG comes out
No blond?
This game is excellent so far. I wish I didn't have to sleep. Made it through the first month in Classic Ironman, so that's something!
