Psi-Ops kickstarter when
I mean shit, sign me up for a "Capcom Alien vs Predator on PSN" kickstarter if we're doing that, but I don't think that's the place of it.
Pitch a game that plays like it with your own original properties and I'd happily give you money to make it happen.
The current forced "fiasco" involving Red Ash aside, I think it's fair to say these projects keep getting funded because people want to see these games get made. There's an entire generation of 30 and 40-somethings that have been champing at the bit for years (even decades) to get its collective hands on a proper HD Castlevania, a proper classic Mega Man sequel, Shenmue III, CRPGs in the vein of the Infinity Engine classics, etc.
I loved Mega Man Legends 1 & 2. I want to play Red Ash. I kicked them money in the hope that I'll be able to, same as I did for Bloodstained, Mighty No. 9 and Shenmue III.
Plenty of Kickstarted games failed to deliver (hi Godus), but without it I may never have been able to play Divinity: Original Sin, Pillars of Eternity, Shadowrun or The Tesla Effect. If anything, it's proven time and again just how out of sync publishers have become with what their fans actually want.
Just come over to my place, we can play either on original hardware.
I want to play Redash, but I'd rather play MML3 with a direct continuation of the story. The license there does mean something to me.
i want both
if Cacpcom started it again, if Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, whoever explicitly said "we're gauging interest" i would say "okay, what level is the design works book?"
Bloodstained's case seemed to be real abuse to me. That was a major publisher behind the whole thing, using KS as a marketing tool and to minimize their risk. It's not independent, Igarashi doesn't even own the IP, Deep Silver does. It is in every way a publisher project, and they weren't even particularly transparent about it. Igarashi let the cat out of the bag in an interview when confronted, but it was really pretty sleazy overall.
To me, there's a big difference between that and Shenmue which really does need the funds and for which KS is the last resort after over a decade of struggle.
