I think FF13/13-2's combat is easily the worst thing about those games. It just boils down to Auto-Battle being the most useful thing in 99.999999% of all situations. It's FF12 with all the good and deliberate, painstaking interplay in mechanics taken out so OH SHIT I PRESS A AND I'M A TACTICIAN.
13's combat makes me sad, sadder still that people point to it like that was the shining point in those games and the direction SE should be taking.

Dude. No. I don't know how you completed the game like that. The combat was amazing.
-
The combat is "press A on Auto Battle every time, cuz doing anything else is stupid, takes too long, and could cost you teammates" then watch pretty shit happen.
EDIT: The only thing that does feel like it matters are Roles, and even that sucks because they arbitrarily limit the number of combinations you can use in a single conflict. Which THEN means stacking your Roles to be the most stable/pragmatic/boring. I use Medic/Ravager/Commando and sometimes Sentinel because being risky and using anything else is stupid for the sake of being different.

Like, you can't even muscle through the game like that. Maybe the 2nd one because it was so dumbed down, but the first one required paying attention. Every fight was a little puzzle (that admittedly got old if you got into a bunch of fights with the same thing). Even maxed out, the final battle was really tough for me with my preferred team until i discovered the secret poison trick.

I finished FF13 that way - the last boss I died maybe once before finishing it. I don't know if I was just overpowered or what, but only some of the hunt stuff felt like knowing the right roles mattered. Even so, it wasn't a puzzle, so much as run headlong into a fight you'll lose (because you had the wrong role), reload, change roles, do it again. Not really strategic.
You're right though - 13-2 is a breeze compared to 13. Mash A to win.
EDIT: I'm just spoiled by FF12 <3
-
The only explanation is that you played a different game than i did.
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get through either game without constantly switching up paradigms (particularly when it comes to bosses). I call bullshit.
-
Trailer is out. Looks like total shit.
-
Agree with AaronChance, this looks like garbage. I'm out.

It doesn't look any worse than FFXIII-2 did. What's the problem here?
