randoms that have no idea how to drive are the best in this game

just did a playlist that ended with a race, on the rolling start it didn't trigger my starting checkpoint so halfway through the first lap I had to doubleback to get it, still came in 1st

e: on the plus though, it was laps around hughes park so I got in plenty of perfect nitrouses for my burn nitrous pro on the lamborghini adventador, love that car it's my p12 track of real cars

When everything falls into place, this game is amazing. But a lot of stuff bugs me.

There's way too much detail and info flying at you. For some reason the city is always wet, so they have spray and lighting effects hit the screen. I don't really need to see rainbows and dirt marks on my screen when I'm trying to drive 150 mph. There's notifications popping up around the car all the time. When I wreck someone the notification often blocks my view of what's in front of me for far too long. Get that shit out of my way, I need to look down the road a couple of hundred feet. In multiplayer, they put all the names of everyone playing off to the right. Again, get that shit out of my way. There were times where I couldn't make right hand turns without crashing because I literally couldn't see where to go because there is a wall of 8 names blocking my view.

When you use the menu to change cars, I don't understand why they teleport you to the car instead of just giving it to you right there (like in multiplayer).

Evading cops can be a complete nightmare. Endless chases as I end up hitting a road block that I had no chance of avoiding is so annoying. I just want to get to my next race.

While in a race, it's usually pretty easy to stay on course with the way they mark the checkpoints. Outside of that, the dependence of looking at the GPS is ridiculous. They need to put highlights on the actual road so you don't miss turns and have to double back. I don't remember having this much of a problem with Paradise. Maybe because the city wasn't as complex or I just got used to it. They did make a lot of changes post release that helped a lot though.

Yeah - just started playing this last night and the pop-up crap is really distracting and I really don't care for the while-you're-driving menu at all. Also concur with the fact that the GPS just makes you do a race a few times and try to memorize the turns - doing anything decent on the 1st run is nearly impossible.

I <3 evading cops. I think my score was like 50k something.

The cops suck. I liked the HP cops events. Race like hell and attack them, not navigate around while you're just trying to get to the next race, bullshit aroun, go into cooldown and run into another cop coming in the other direction. If you have to go slow in a racing game, it's broken.

Change color, drive normal. Gotta lay low man.

also find an abandoned building to park inside or on top of to wait out the meter (so long as the support chopper isn't out)

my biggest boohoo so far is that occasionally online I'll be driving so fast I outrun the city loading off the disc and just be in limbo for a second or two until everything pops in, hopefully they can straighten that out with a patch down the line


e: as far as the gps goes just check it when you're at a questionable intersection and there's no traffic in the way because if you drive like me your car is literally a traffic magnet


e2: vvv yeah, this is ESPECIALLY stupid online if you get a bunch of takedowns in a row (or hit a bunch of milestones and unlock upgrades) the game just keeps pumping out the notifications for like a minute or two straight and it ties the rest of the match up

The stuff like "HEAT LEVEL INCREASED" in the middle of the screen while driving really rankles my ass. Can't tell you how many times I'm crashing because I simply can't see in front of me. Also, not loving the D-pad menu screen - kind of difficult to steer at 100+ MPG and navigate that shit. Still, played a bunch yesterday and the strengths certainly > the weaknesses.

There's a lot of really weird design decisions, for the sake of making things "faster". They keep trying to push pause menus away, but with the genre they are doing it just doesn't work. Hopefully they improve it like they did Paradise.
