I wonder why Resurrection is the way it is though - there was a PSP Darkstalkers that had 1-3 rules/characters you could mashup all together (like the SFA one on PS2). Was there some issue in just redistributing that on PSN/XBLA?
it's like this because the emulator was already done, all they needed to do was re-do some assets and drop the roms in
this is why it got announced this week and will be available in 3-4 months
Which is fine for me, they add challenges and other assets to roms, add netplay(Yes I know I can, and have, do it on PC). If I can get damn near every cps2 fightmans on my zboz I'll be happy.
The bigger question is where is the Alpha2/Alpha2G/Alpha3 package?
Man, Capcom had some of the best 2D artists. Shame that they simply got left to flounder.

Because it was built from the ground up, Hero. Capcom is switching out roms like you would switch out boards on a CPS2 machine.
Not really built from the ground-up. It's been a while since I played it, but I'm pretty sure the PSP game was a port of Dreamcast's Vampire Chronicle.
Still way more work than the Iron Galaxy/CPS2 ROM dump package they've been doing though.
The goal with these releases is an arcade perfect port with nice online and some extras. The ten people that still play this game don't want the mishmash super collection thing. If you want that, the DC, PSP and PS2 collection are great.
Anyway, it seems that Iron Galaxy is being much more conscientious with these ports now. Here are some things I posted and Derek replied to.

I actually ordered the import physical copy of this and totally forgot.
Apparently this a 2f input lag according to early reports. Wonder if they can patch it.
I'm nowhere near good enough to notice that, but I still hope they're able to address it in case it affects sales, which may in turn affect the fate of the sequel.

A: We tested Darkstalkers Resurrection with CRT monitors. Compared to the arcade versions of Night Warriors and Darkstalkers 3, the input delay on Darkstalkers Resurrection is within 2 frames. From a software and hardware perspective, that is the closest we can tune the game. The main reason that you may experience a lot of input lag is due to the type of TV/monitor you use, so we recommend using either a monitor with a very high refresh rate, or a CRT monitor. (The latter may be hard to do in this day and age…)
We used Mad Catz Arcade FightStick PRO controllers to do our testing. There’s no difference in input between the Mad Catz controllers and the standard controllers that come with your system.
That's probably just poorly translated. If I remember correctly ST has 4 frames of input delay on a cabinet. Wait until english speaking people that actually play VS try it.
If everyone's playing with the same delay then it's an even match, so whatevs.
I'm more upset that this is an arcade port and not a Dreamcast port since the DC version had extra content and characters.

I can't believe the fate of the sequel is resting on the sales of a re-release of the old games where there's already been re-releases on Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, MAME, etc. How many times are people supposed to buy/download the same fucking game?

The Saturn game is still sitting in my pile of shame. I was busy playing the SF Alphas at the time.
I'm sure if a new DS is being made it's already in development and they just use that line to guilt the fans into paying more and reinforce that feeling of "omg I need to buy these games and support the community!"

It has every Darkstalkers character ever up until that point (fuck that asshole Dee in the PS2 version), English text/character name options, lightning fast load times...you name it. It originally shipped bundled with the RAM cart. It allows full arcade animation and massively speeds up the load times. I'd say it's essential.
It was the first Saturn game I got, from EB no less, along with the swap cart. That thing was a bitch and a half.
I think VS was my first Saturn game as well. I didn't fuck with the swap cart, however, I just had a switch installed.
I had the 4 meg cart that allowed me to play imports without switching.
Real Bout Fatal Fury and KOF '97 were soo good on the Saturn.
Sweet jeebus, I got the 4 meg cart with Xmen vs SF, then found an import shop where I got KOF 95-97 and both Real Bout games. So good.
Swapping the carts before I got that 4 in 1 cart was a pain in the ass though, I'm surprised I didn't kill the fragile cart slot.
Truth. Also, I still prefer the Saturn version to the PS2 arcade collection because the Saturn's 240p looks so much better than the PS2 port's blurry 480i on my Trinitron.Quote:

Yep, Darkstalkers animations are boss. I agree that it is Capcom's best sprite work aside from Third Strike.
I think I like the stages from DS2 more than VS.

Where does the down come in? That's definitely the part I was missing if that's it. I was just to trying to hit back, back, forward, forward as fast as possible, and it wasn't fast enough or just wrong.
I don't know darkstalkers, but you can probably cancel dashes with crouching, so you dash back, cancel the dash immediately with a crouch, then dash forward jab. That's the second challenge?!

I didn't even play that much SFIV. It was just the first challenge mode I recall playing.
The sad thing I learned or was reminded of is that Darkstalkers "innovated" air blocking. I used to blame SFA, a series I never liked that much, for that. :cry:

Am I also the only one who's happy that it's the arcade versions? Some assholes are bitching that it's not the PS1 DS3 (MOAR CHARACTERS), even though this has All The Frames.
Nothing wrong with taking what you can get, but wasn't there a PS2 version with all the characters and all the frames? Why wouldn't we want the best? At the very least, why wouldn't we want all the arcade versions of Vampire Savior?
I have that too. This does have some nice graphical options though. My favorite is the cabinet with scanlines.
Capcom gonna Capcom. Iron Galaxy's specialty is feeding CPS/2/3 games into their emulation/GGPO machine and spitting these out (Magic Sword/Final Fight, MSHvSF/MvC, SF3OE, and now this). AFAIK VS2 and VH2 never came out in English, so they'd run into issues with the platform holders over releasing untranslated content. The original DS/Vampire isn't on there because Hunter makes it completely obsolete.Quote:

That's what an upconverter is for! Although if all you're going to play is VS, then it doesn't much matter.
These are both off my SD CRT over component (in Saturn's case it's RGB SCART transcoded to YUV). The PS2 game is just so blurry and ugly in comparison. I wish they took better care with the port and had a true 240p/low res mode.Quote:

Super Arcade streaming a VS tournament!
I've been anticipating this release since the game was announced so I bought this yesterday and been playing mostly 3.
Now why do I continue to buy fighters that are eternal time sinks I don't know but I'm a fan of the franchise and want to see a new version released by Capcom so I did my part. I probably won't be doing a great deal of online play until I re-familiarize myself with the game's mechanics but I may do a few quick matches depending on who wants to play.
So far I think it's great that the PS3 and 360 have such a great library of fighters to choose from and just play online.
I do love that, and that I have good sticks for both.
