I seriously prefer this sort of lightsaber fight, where they're going after one another with baseball bats.

Yoshi, how about forget I-III, and compare this more with IV-VI. The fighting was way more on par with those. In fact, just forget that I-III existed at all. Life is so much better that way.
Yeah, I can't believe Yoshi is arguing for the zero-stakes, pointless fights of the prequels, with characters that never displayed aptitude at anything meaningful in the whole course of the movies.
Conversely, Rey is not an interesting character. She has unearned proficiency at everything, and gets to exceed the challenge of whatever situation just because. I don't think that equates to a strong hero, female or male, and it robs her of depth.
Disagree. I think she comes off as somebody who has to scrap quite often just as a matter of course. Mechanical proficiency goes hand-in-glove with the salvage angle and Star Destroyer spelunking. In so much as a fictional character can be 'good' at something, they made their case.
Plus the muffin trick was cool.
I like her, one of the better SW characters.
Of the newbies 'Poe' seems like the one I'd complain about being 'automatically the best', but I think that ends up being more about Finn's admiration than anything else.
She does get from one University of Phoenix Jediology course what took Luke years of study.
Some people are just talented, what can ya do.
What's to say Luke wouldn't have just started exhibiting powers if the droids didn't show up in the first place?
What if Rey is NOT who everyone thinks she is??what if she's Obi Wan's granddaughter?? May be a good reason for that Obi Wan movie. Obi does speak to her....
We really don't know much about her at all. Who's to say she wasn't being trained by Luke when Ben went all dark side? Maybe she had already had some training by Luke but had to have her memory is erased and left on Jakku for safety.
Simply, the difference between Kylo Ren & Darth Vader comes out quick. DV is cold and calculating, while Kylo Ren is a loose cannon. Intimidating but in polar opposite ways. A couple Stormtroopers are in a hall near the room when Kylo loses his shit and begins a wrecking spree, and decide it's best to give him a 10 mile berth.
Who knows how he'll be next time around though after Snoke is to have trained him some more. It's clear his full strength isn't meant to be shown yet. If he keeps the rage but controls it instead of being controlled by it, that could work for him. Imagine Episode VIII or IX showing Kylo Ren a bit more versed in the ways of the Dark Side, crashing through a 70-man New Republic squad like a pissed-off human bowling ball while using just his lightsaber and Force powers.
