There's a lot of story hooks built into his design that don't get expanded on in the movies that run loose in fan imaginations. Wookie scalps? Sure why not. Nothing doing in the movies about that, but the action figure box says so, must be true.
Yep. To tie this back to the topic at hand, you could also argue that the Mandalorian connection is somewhat a kin to the Knights of Ren in terms of untapped potential thus far.

I don't get any luke hate in ANH. He was absolutely perfect for that role. He wasn't raised as the son of two of the greatest legends in the history of the universe and then taught by the greatest living jedi in the universe. He was raised by an overprotective uncle and aunt, representing the age of the late 70's, and his character evolution was fairly believable.Quote:

What this, the prequels, and the original trilogy made me realize is Star Wars is really a series about Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewey. It's not a world that you tell stories in any more than superman is still superman if you tell a movie about the office clerk chasing after lois lane. Killing off Han was a great scene, but for me at least literally puts a cap on how long this is star wars. All I have left to see is how the characters react to and change with this revelation. Han Solo, Alex Guiness Obi Wan, and Darth Vader were about 90% of the gravitas of the original star wars trilogy. On screen in this one, the amount Han pulls attention and charisma versus the other characters was stark. He was as far above the others in acting as Alex Guiness was back in ANH. My only real hope for the next one is that Mark Hamill leveled up with all of his voice work over the years, hopefully some of that carries over? He seemed to have something for the 10 seconds you saw him. But this movie reaffirmed my belief that I never want to see any movie not involving those original four. Without killing Han this movie would have had very little emotional ground because we didn't care all that much about the new characters. And WTF was up with that pilot who was biggs/wedge? Was there any point in him?

I'm glad Finn's dad isn't Lando or some shit (so far). That stuff just makes the universe that much smaller.
I think all the scenes with the new cast are better than all the scenes with the old cast, imo. Pass the torch, these guys are good and I want to see more of them.

Exactly what does the Resistance need Luke for, anyway? Rey managed to teach herself force skills like the Jedi Mind Trick with no help or even understanding of what the force was, and even nearly slaughtered Kylo Ren with ease once she (I guess) read his mind to learn how to use a lightsaber. Hell, she would have killed the main bad guy of the movie if that fissure hadn't opened up in the ground beneath them and saved his ass. If someone who had never even touched a lightsaber before can beat Kylo Ren, that kinda takes the piss out of your main villain for any future installments. After all, in Empire Luke was toyed with and easily beaten by Vader, and that was after Yoda was schooling him for a while. Rey is already kicking ass; it makes you wonder what the hell anyone needs with Jedi training.
The fight bugged me as well, but it was because Kylo Ren didn't use any of his force powers to gain advantages.
You are assuming that Kylo Ren knows how to use a lightsaber well. Maybe Luke never even showed him a lightsaber and whoever corrupted him let him know about the fighting potential of the jedi. They then figured out how to make a makeshift lightsaber, but not a fully functioning one. Even if he never had anyone to practice with or show him how to use it, it's still a dominate weapon and very intimidating.
Rey on the other hand grew up a survivor. She knows how to fight in melee combat, probably way better than Kylo Ren does. If you can figure out how to turn on the lightsaber you can probably beat down an injured, fake vader.
