:wtf: If anything the term is applied disproportionately to male characters. Kvothe, Rand al'Thor, Richard Rahl... this is actually the first time in a long time I've seen it applied to a woman, and yet somehow there's this big stink about it being sexist. (But maybe my perspective is a bit skewed by avoiding YA crap and discussion thereof like the plague.)
Until you provide the receipts, I don't believe that. Same as I don't believe that happens on the Marvel side either. Disney is a big enough—and smart enough—company to know when to and not to stick extra fingers into projects.
That's just willful ignorance.
I think there are absolutely some story hooks left out for Disney Marketing to run with*, but I don't think Lucasfilm was doing anything even slightly differently**.
*how's Poe gonna make it out of that Tie Fighter crash and back to the rebel base? I bet we find out in a video game or comic book spin off product! Etc etc
**Shadows of the Empire! All the marketing! None of the movie! Check out the three frames of the ship/toy from the spin-off in an actual film! Maybe!
From everything I have heard Disney tries to allow creative freedom in its ventures. Both Marvel and Lucasfilm were bought for their characters and creative licenses. They use formulas, sure, but the directors of these things and Abrams are the ones with the most influence.
Rey and Finn will kiss at some point in this series. I'm sure.
They've said that shit for years. But it's came out on many works that Disney had a heavy hand in many things.
The emperors new groove is a pretty good example.
