I think they're targeting the people that hated the prequels, a set that would include the people making the movies now.

Lily saw the trailer and wants to see this.
I'm doing it right.
God Harrison Ford said he regretted this role but he will still take a paycheck won't he.
Calista Flockheart needs to eat. I think.
Ayyyyyyyy
I don't give two shits about Star Wars but that trailer was fantastic.
I see what FF is thinking. I mean who else thought of midichlorians when they were talking about the force? I did. They can fix that by making a damn good movie. To date I've been expecting this to be a piece of shit with lots of fan service, like a Marvel movie. But now? That trailer makes me think they are on the right track. I think this could be a really good movie. Like the type of movie I can take someone whose never seen a SW and they can dig it.
FuryFox is dead wrong about 70s era robotics though. The robot in the trailer looked great and the 70s sci-fi aesthetic is cooler than it was in the 1970s.
Aww, I love the future of the 70's.
If your 70's era robotics contribute to the visual style of the film, awesome. After the prequels, the technology in that universe is all over the place, and even though the designs are superior, the original stuff sticks out logically against what's clearly common place. I mean, there's stuff that just hovers...R2D2 is so useless they invented jets for his feet in the prequels just so he could participate in scenes, and that is not cool 70's robotics. That's ham-handed.
It's annoying seeing R2D2 and C3P0 or some equivalent get trotted out anytime they've hit the narrative beat for slapstick physical comedy or a deus ex machina, or don't think anything Star War'y enough is on screen. R2D2 has essentially become the "I'll be back" of the SW series.
Yeah. The new movies were Doctor Who bad, without the intentional cheese of Dr Who that made it ok. Dalek flys up stairs, it is funny, but ok. R2D2 flys, it kind of ruins everything.
Watched the trailer. It was pretty good. Only concern are the few seconds of Bro's in it. I really hope they don't 2013/14 action movie it and include lots of bro's or a dumb side plot about family.
For the love of god, just play it straight. Just play the god damn movie straight. That is why shit like A New Hope, Alien, Terminator, Ghost busters, Short circuit, etc are great movies. They played the shit straight.
I'm hoping that the 10% of Disney that understands life, that little bit making those Disney Mickey shorts, is what is driving this. But, I have my worries with J.J. Abrams at the helm. Is he going to do what he did with Star Trek?
