If they're really going to use them this needs to be set at least 30 years after RotJ. Like with Han & Leia's kids already in their 20s, which in the expanded universe would be around when the extragalactic hippies invaded.
I'd prefer all new actors or an all CG Pixar version with them doing the voices.
I hope they completely overwrite the EU, since I ignored almost all of that anyway. But I think you're timeline is right.
I'd give up on star wars if they did that. I've read almost everything in the EU at this point.
I'm already super pissed that they retconned my favorite series in the EU for that cartoon network show that's on now (I haven't watched any of it other than the awful movie).
I can see an old Hamill as the Yoda of a new Jedi order, teaching Han and Leia's kids, but I don't really see how geriatric Ford and trainwreck Fisher can fit in.
They can be ghosts that wave during the big dance at the end.
That's Thrawn and he'd be long dead by the time Luke & Leia are old farts. He's who they really should center a new trilogy on if they're going with the EU.
He's probably the best antagonist to come from the EU. Dude was scary smart and used it to become a grand admiral, one of the highest military ranks possible, in a xenophobic Empire.
Lucas should have made 7,8,9 instead of 1-3. That was a great read.

I wish they would do something completely new and that it has nothing to do with the Jedi.
Maybe something kind of like that Droids cartoon, except written well.
If they can't do that, do something like KOTOR where it is far far away from the movies.
It will do neither. They'll stick with all the predictable, profitable shit.
And add talking animals and songs.
There's a special ring of hell reserved for people like you.
Fuckin' singing Honeycomb critter.
You do realize the the EU consists of well over a hundred novels and then hundreds of comics right? And that's ignoring the video games, role playing games, and TV
There is some really good stuff in there and some really bad stuff, and a whole lot of decent stuff if you're a big fan of the universe.
Yeah, some of it's actually really good. There's the Thrawn trilogy and... uh... KOTOR I guess, if games count?
I thought that it was laid down already that the EU wasn't canon.
I just want the next set of movies do well and not have convoluted elements ala Metal Gear Solid 2.
I always considered the Thrawn Trilogy Ep 7-9.
But those are the only Stars Wars books I read.
I grew up getting into the EU as a kid, reading many books, guides, etc. Some of the coolest stuff, I thought, were the stories set alongside the timeline in the movies (Shadows of the Empire), stuff set in the past (Exar Kun) and the continued war against the Empire (X-Wing series, Truce at Bakura, Thrawn, etc.) after Return of the Jedi. I eventually kind of fell out of keeping up with all the new stuff but I took the time to get up to speed last year by going on the wiki.
Here's my problem with the EU in regards to around the time the new movies are supposed to be set:
The Empire is long gone, the Rebel Alliance was successful and became something greater. Han and Leia got married, had children and Luke Skywalker became a Jedi Master. Happy Ending. Instead, it's constant conflict with absolutely no resolution with more and more enemies and more and more people falling to the Dark Side. It makes the struggle of the original trilogy completely pointless and without any true implication of serious victory. Essentially, it has become typical comic book fodder that continues to reintroduce conflicts for the sake of keeping the universe alive and relevant in modern times.
In my opinion, the progression of the EU after the events of RotJ has gone too far. Originally, it fit into the timeline well but it's just become an endless cycle with no purposeful end in sight. I wouldn't mind if they borrow certain elements for the new trilogy, but I'd like to see their considerations more on the minimal side.
Sam Jackson Mode. Ford and Jackson would be the greatest cast for any non-porno movie ever by themselves.
Would you really want a happy ending where everything is perfect and nothing bad could ever happen again? Take wanting that out of the equation, but do you honestly expect it? This ain't no Disney movie where evil is banished forever. When has overcoming a struggle ever led to an everlasting utopia? Translating your argument to the real world would be like expecting no more war or struggle after the end of WWII. The Nazis have been defeated and there is now world peace! There is never a perfect and infinite resolution.
And there are extended periods of relative peace in the EU. They just didn't write a whole lot about it because who really wants to read about Leia working in the government and Han relaxing at home.
Star Trek/Star Wars crossover fan fiction is better than this movie is going to be. I've got $5 on it. Anyone want to take that action?
Right here. Who's the official judge?
*Because I really don't want to read any fan fiction ever again.
Han Solo fucks Tasha Yar. Luke fucks Deanna Troi. Data fucks C3P0. Riker fucks Jabba the Hutt.
Q fucks the Emperor. Barclay fucks Yoda. The Borg Collective gangbangs Leia.
Anally.
It's the "analy" that really seals the deal. TNL ftw.
It always does.

I don't see why there isn't some sort of short film collection, animated or otherwise, about Star Wars. Like an Animatrix or a Batman Gotham Knight.
It's professional fan fiction. I don't blame anyone for loving the universe and enjoying work of people continuing to write stories in it -- but it's ridiculous to take any of it as canon. The fact that some of it was borrowed and developed in to official works is beyond kind by Lucas and his people.
How could anything be better than that? Fools bet.
This:
And this:
I saw that Star Trek/X-Men one back in the day. Kirk tried to mack on Jean Grey but the bitch shot him down.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...1&d=1357499511
Obviously it's not canon. Kirk would have jump kicked cyclops into a black hole, then Kirk would be exploring Jean's black hole.
No doubt. He'd be having a XXX throwdown in a Jefferies Tube with Jean, Storm, and Rogue while Cyclops sat sobbing in the brig.
Rouge Squadron.
it's funny because they're both named mccoy
So's he!
That's the worst Riddler cosplay I've ever seen.
Git dat Ingleesh S-eye F-eye outta my 'MURICAN S-eye F-eye!
has Patrick Stuart been on the new dr who yet? I know they had that guy who played dumbledore for one of the weird Christmas episodes.
Stuart.
After tatarul or whatever it was, I can't give him crap if it's somewhat close.
This thread is almost as bad as the last few movies.
Aping the Hidden Fortress wasn't good enough?
Word on the street is that JJ Abrams is the director. STARS

It can't possibly be worse than Lucas. And Star Trek was pretty rad.
if that turns out to be true, at least the spaceship stuff will be on point if star trek 09 is anything to go by
I'm ok with this.
Star Trek was awesome, Super 8 was awesome and the new Star Trek looks awesome.
If he gives the same quality treatment to Star Wars I'd think it would actually be better than anything Lucas has done so far. Which speaks more to how shitty George Lucas really is than anything else.
I'm still waiting on the announcement of a writer
Michael Arndt, back in November.
I find that acceptable
I'm fine with this. The Star Trek reboot is already a better film than all of the Star Wars prequels combined.
One of the short list of people who would do a good job. Kinda excited? Excited isn't the right word. Hopeful, maybe?
Awesome. I liked all his movies so far. I even thought his Mission Impossible was great. I'm pretty optimistic about this being good now. I even loved his Star Trek. And I fucking hate that series.
This nigga can't finish anything he starts.
Well he's already made one Star Wars movie, why not make an official one. I want to see X-Wings and Star Destroyers and robot bounty hunters. Any attempt at "rebooting" or alternate universing will be met with severe derision. And so help me if I see one fucking lens flare.
^Beat me to it. He already made a better Star Wars movie than Lucas has since the early 80s*... too bad he did it when he was supposed to be making Trek. As for the rebooting/time travel/alternate universe shenanigans, I don't think we need to worry about any of that. He is after all just directing, not writing it (and nor are any of his usual cohorts). It's being written by the Toy Story 3/Little Miss Sunshine guy, from a treatment approved by Lucasfilm and Disney before the merger was even announced, so Abrams' influence on the actual content of the plot should be minimal. There's no time for him to mess around with it much if they want to make summer 2015.
*Taking into account Lucas' role on Empire and Jedi as a producer so hands-on as to be co-director in all but name.

After a bevy of emails and phone calls, the formalities have been wrapped up, and at long last everyone can exhale and properly share the word with an excited Internet. Yes, J.J. Abrams will direct*Star Wars: Episode VII, the first of a new series of*Star Wars*films to come from Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy. Abrams will be directing and Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay."It's very exciting to have J.J. aboard leading the charge as we set off to make a new*Star Wars*movie," said Kennedy. "J.J. is the perfect director to helm this. Beyond having such great instincts as a filmmaker, he has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essence of the*Star Wars*experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgettable motion picture."George Lucas went on to say "I've consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller." He's an ideal choice to direct the new*Star Wars*film and the legacy couldn't be in better hands.""To be a part of the next chapter of the*Star Wars*saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honor," J.J. Abrams said. "I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid."J.J., his longtime producing partner Bryan Burk, and Bad Robot are on board to produce along with Kathleen Kennedy under the Disney | Lucasfilm banner."Also consulting on the project are Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg. Kasdan has a long history with Lucasfilm, as screenwriter on*The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark*and*Return of the Jedi.*Kinberg was writer on*Sherlock Holmes*and*Mr. and Mrs. Smith.Abrams and his production company Bad Robot have a proven track record of blockbuster movies that feature complex action, heartfelt drama, iconic heroes and fantastic production values with such credits as*Star Trek,*Super 8,*Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, and this year's*Star Trek Into Darkness. Abrams has worked with Lucasfilm's preeminent postproduction facilities, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, on all of the feature films he has directed, beginning with*Mission: Impossible III. He also created or co-created such acclaimed television series as Felicity, Alias, Lost and Fringe.
This is news I can get behind. I'm not a Star Wars fan for the most part, because I didn't get into the original trilogy as a kid, and the second wave was repulsive. However, Abrams directed one of my favorite movies (Super 8) and the new Star Trek, so ... I like it.
Also: no more 3D rereleases apparently.
I'm honestly shocked at that.
I would've watched episodes 3-6 in 3D. Shame they based projected sales off the most hated entry of the series.
They want to release new movies now. The fans hate the idea of 3D updates, and the fans hate the new trilogy.
Does Disney want fans talking about the new movie, or complaining about how crappy the new trilogy is and how annoying the 3D re-releases are?
I really don't think this is about projected sales, or positive NPV or anything (they would be guaranteed to make money off it). I really think it's about Disney wanting to start fresh with this franchise. They need the nerds, and the nerds are sick of rehashes.
It's basically a PR move. Maybe they'll revisit it after the new movie launches.
First they said they were doing all six with one a year. Then they said they were only going to do the prequels, and then do the originals if sales were high enough (which sounds an awful lot like TPM was doing worse than expected). Then they rescheduled episodes 2 and 3 to launch like one month apart. Now they're canceling both of those a couple months later. Just seems weird. Almost as weird as when my girlfriend told me she dressed up as Amidala for halloween when she was like 10.
What's she planning to go as next year?
Salacious Crumb.
Fucking rep limits.
no more tasteless movie trailers :(
Star Wars: Into Darkness
Damn. I was hoping it would be funny.
Nah but this one got me to giggle.
___Lens Flare___
Too subtle.
Started out strong, but then was just a crap ton of random sequences. Trailer fail.
Needs more flare
I kinda like it on the lightsabres.
Harrison Ford is in. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/61001
Sold as if it wasn't already.
Wasn't he going to do Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth first?
At 70, Greedo's gonna shoot first every time.
The timing won't matter since Han will only be shooting blanks.
