I've been looking to import the original cart now that I have a Game Genie and can play it. Would you say it's worth at least $20 for the JAP cart if you're a beat-em-up fan?

You sure that GA3 doesnt have lockout? I know some later carts did.
It does, but it works if you enter a region unlock Game Genie code.
Persona 4 Golden -- is this supposed to be good? In seven hours I have gone through one dungeon (with five textures) and spent the rest of the time doing one mundane task after another in between transition screens while I talk to people with nothing to say, visit the same areas over and over and answer inane questions.
Yes. One of the best JRPGs ever.
So, do I have to choose to read a book, hang out with some dope or go to some shitty club three times a day for a whole year? Or does that go away?
That's how the game is, and how you build your characters.
My advice is to cut your losses and walk away.

I guess I will play Spec Ops first. I want to like it, but it seems like the typical do one thing and then run around the entire world to see if anyone has anything to say (like Mass Effect)...except so far, no one has anything to say.
The whole thing with the game is spending time with people. That's the best part. The dungeons are pretty simple and repetitive despite the combat and persona fusion system being great; thankfully you only really need to do them like once or twice a month.
Yep.
There are maybe three or four instances in the game where you need to find out specific information by asking people, and then they make it very obvious that this is what you need to do, and I don't remember any of them being too close to the start. If you're finding it a chore to explore the what, four tiny areas available to you at the start and talk to like 10 people because you're rushing to get to "the game" instead of having the curiosity to explore then maybe this is not the right game type for you.
I just don't want to miss stuff, so yeah, I go visit all the places and run around the school every day.
