What happened to them? I miss them so much.
Console versions. I can't be carrying around portables.
I guess there's Xenoblade, The Last Story and a bunch of awful Tales games. I'm just waiting for Persona 5.
Almost anyone that wants more than one or two JRPGs has a handheld device. Handhelds dominate Japan. Cheaper games are made for handhelds. It doesn't make a lot of sense to release anything but the biggest name on console anymore. I'm in the group that only wants one or two.
The japanese for the most part have given up on consoles, or lack the tech to properly develop for them. I believe that's why we see more and more japanese companies farming shit out to the west.
They went all in with DS and PSP because the sales numbers were there and they didn't have to invest in any new tech.
I think Xenoblade Chronicles was the best console JRPG released in the last 6 years.
No, The Last Story is the best
Blue Dragon is a nice game.
The Last Story is a series of hallways and auto attack.
also, hitting the use button on everything
nothing

Tales of Vesperia was a great game. Tales of Graces F has mixed reception people love the characters but apparently the dungeons are terrible and short. Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles are both amazing JRPGs,
You can probably pass on FFXIII. Last Story is really interesting though I never finished it, Blue Dragon is ok, it's fun to grind and learn skills. There's been a pretty serious lack of good class changing JRPGs on console unfortunately. The Atelier games are Atelier games, but I realllllyyy liked Atelier Totori, so it's on PS3.
This thread needs more Ni No Kuni and Demon's/Dark Souls.
Dark Souls certainly fits the bill, but I look at it as more of an evolution of western rpg design ala Wizardry.
When I hear jrpg, Final Fantasy and its ilk come to mind.
I fully expect Ni No Kuni to take the throne, once I can actually play it.
Yeah Ni No Kuni is coming, but it's not out yet.
It is possible to play them when at rest in your home.
Maybe.
When I'm home I'd rather the big screen. Also, handhelds are as expensive as consoles now. I can't spend that much and justify it.
I can only play them in small increments now, I have a habit of falling asleep when I play more then an hour.
if dark souls is a JRPG than I'm all about JRPGs
I can't really get into the for real JRPGs lately. The closest I'll be getting recently is that I'll probably buy Etrian 4 knowing there's pretty much no chance I'll finish it.
They can tone down the time to complete one but the feel is what I miss.
I don't see why portables are a bad thing. I always tend to grind best on a train.
Portables are the best. Japanese games on a portable are the super best.
Stop doing EVERYTHING. Most J-RPGs can be finished in 25-30 hours, if you're not being OCD.
I hear really good things about Tales of Xillia, which is coming out here next year. That series has gotten kind of hit or miss and way to prolific, but I hear Xillia is one of the best ones yet. Between that an Ni No Kuni, I'll probably have my JRPG fix.
25-30 hours ain't much better. Make it 15 and we can talk. That's pretty much why I can only play portable RPGs these days, I put 40 hours into DQ9 in a month, but I've only put a few hours into Demons Souls.
I think the last JRPG (excluding SRPGs) I finished was Chrono Cross... when it was new. I am just incapable of finishing them anymore. In SMT's case, there is always a fight where I get stuck and refuse to go back and fuse different demons or whatever to get past it. The one that I can't explain not finishing is FFXII. I've started three times but just run out of steam. The most recent time I got hornswoggled by a hard drive that died while I was emulating it on PC. My 30+ hour save was lost, so that's probably a wrap unless S-E remakes it.
The one thing I don't mind losing in JRPGs is random battles. I hated those pieces of shit.
I have played 0 minutes. I am just parroting what others have said.
And trolling Finch.
He's trolling. He's the only dude I've seen that says LS>XC.
Nah, LS has more interesting mechanics and characters. People just prefer XC because none of them can finish it from all the side quests and it being more animu.
I hope we see a lot of DS rpgs come to the Wii U now that the control has a screen in it
The main stand outs seem to be Tales of Vesperia and Ni No Kuni.
There's the Final Fantasy games too but big "meh" for me on that one. I'm thinking of getting Tales of Vesperia for Xbox though since I'm kind of missing them and I enjoyed the demo. I also wouldn't mind it if they re-released Skies of Arcadia for PSN/XBL.
only if you don't play Xenoblade
i still like Last Story better, but if i'm going to call Ni no Kuni dumb, i can't ignore that Last Story is a step away from greatness because of a few bad executions as well
You could use Dolphin and it will look like a real current-gen game.
It's a GC/Wii emulator for computers that lets you output 1080p so some of the games look really really nice

(um, if this is against the rules please delete)
STOP ADVOCATING PIRACY
Hey, it uses the retail games. That's not piracy.
Mzo = pirate apologist
I already own two gamecubes and all of the cool GC games. So its not piracy for me.
How is Lost Odyssey btw?

What can brown do for you?
It's good, I actually just started playing through it again. Has a myriad of problems such as having to go into the skill menu every like 5 battles to learn a new skill. But there's a lot of fights where you could grind, but if you use your head it'll be a lot more fun.
Also some great characters, and the mini-novels can be really fucking good stories. I have not beat it yet though so maybe it takes a dump later on. There are however, god awful puzzles.
Lost Odyssey is good. The only thing I didn't like was loading, but I heard installs helped.
Yeah it does help a lot. Also that game has some ugly/dumb character designs. Hell designs in general, the cars in the beginning of the game that have six wheels up front, then a giant elongated back that looks like it should tip over at any time?
sucks that I hate handhelds
Buy both and a PS2 and you're done. FOREVER.
There are a ridiculous amount of PS3-exclusive JRPGs coming this year.
I've got Hyper Dimension Victory preordered.
That's the only one I'm getting day one. We will see about the rest.
I'm definitely sold on Lost Odyssey, I like the mix of Highlander meets Final Fantasy.
The character designs from what I'm seeing aren't the most appealing but I guess it'll just take some getting used to. The only problem I'm having right now is finding it new for a reasonable price given it's "out of print" status. Also, the way they packed the discs in looks pretty retarded:

Indeed.
Tales of Xillia looks pretty good, the graphics style is a little flatter than I would like but the art direction is still appealing.

RPG maker is 50% off on steam for the next hours. Any of you have any thoughts on it? I was thinking about getting it for prototyping.
You know, maybe make a small demo of something, put it up, see if I can get a kickstarter or something for a full game.
I've heard you can expand the engine using ruby too. It would be a good excuse to learn a new language.
The scripting is pretty robust considering how the program initially appears to be, almost every single "rule" the engine has can be broken. Some people have made 3D villages similar to the look of FFT, and custom scripting can also make the game work like Diablo or Zelda if you so choose.
Well, I got it now.
Now to make an rpg about Razor's quest out of the closet, scored by 16 bit gaga
The game of you would be scored by Animotion.

Lost Odyssey rare htf $9.99 used in stock at every Gamestop in Miami.
no instructions, generic case, and resurfacing fluid all over the discs.
what are some good fight monster JRPGs?
pokemans? DQ monster? Monster farm?
serious question. I want to play fight monsters this weekend
What platform(s)?
I have a NES, Gameboy, GBA, SNES, Gen, and PS2 here. I left the 360 and WiiU at my folks place so my dad could play the games he got for christmas (his 360 died). Though I suppose I could play any suggestions a week from now when I go to help my mom after her surgery.
Oh, and my sis lives down the block, so I could play on her PS3
Persona 4!
Jade Cocoon
Robopon
Magi Nation
Demi Kids
Spectrobes
Fossil Fighters
Digimon
what would you suggested had I had other systems? Anything worth buying a system for?
Beast busters or biomotor unitron for NGPC.
Yes.
Aside from Monster Rancher, Jade Cocoon, and I guess SMT, I can't think of any console pokeclones. Weird.
It feels like some NIS or whatever Japanese company should have made one for PS3. Maybe they did and they just never were released over here.
Ni no Kunémon
beast buster you say
Not the same game. It's called Dark Arms: Beast Busters
That game is really good.
you can play SMT1 and 2 on your iOS-enabled product, but not in English or you can play it with an English translation on something else that's not official. Monster Catch Game Original
BETWEEN ME AND JOSH, FINCH IS BOOKED SOLID FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE!
and after I got those games he suggested? Even used?
and why would I want a Lite?
I'm a big man, I need a big DS
Lite has a much better screen and better form than Fat DS. Too bad XL doesn't have a GBA slot, otherwise i'd just say get one of those.
Get a GBMicro and a DSiXL. There, you're set.
I picked up 5 DSiXL's from Sears for $35 a piece. I'll sell you one for $55 plus shipping.
How do you feel about pink?
(Don't you assholes start pming me. This is for cheeks only. I made some nice bank from pokemon toys he sold me.)
http://www.technologytell.com/gaming...otes-feminism/ Look, Neptunia is a progressive game. Quests (from characters representing Luigi and Mario) that involve gathering materials for boob-enhancement for lolis aren't horribly sexist and questionably awful in every other way imaginable, they're empowering
