This post applies to me word for word. I did end up "cheating" on the last boss fight and equipped healing items because he would counter my attacks to destroy his healing (I guess the window for being safe is smaller than it looks to me) and I was starting to get annoyed, but otherwise I managed to make it through without. What an amazing game.
Got a rank C with 7:35 on the time counter.
p.s. Playing this game while also having the codec ring on my phone made for some very confusing times.
I have got to get that game.
I just realized it's already March and I have not beaten a single new game this year. I did better than that last year when my daughter was born. Argh.
4. Resident Evil 5 (PS3)
Well, it took buying this four times on three different platforms to finally get through it, but it's done. Very much like its predecessor, pointer controls absolutely saved the game. I found RE4 nearly unplayable on GameCube and PS2 and never beat it until the Wii version. Similarly, I had the PS3 CE, the 360 version (with co-op in mind), and the PC version prior to getting the Move enabled Gold edition, which actually made the game playable for me. Once the controls were out of the way as an issue, this is actually a pretty decent entry into the series. It's not as good as the more pure Revelations, but it's not even close to as bad as my earlier impressions either. The action actually works with the pointer aiming, although the made-for-coop partner idea still sucked, especially in terms of inventory management. Maybe someday I'll go for a New Game + on Veteran solo, but for now, I want to give the DLC a whirl, maybe before Tomb Raider unlocks on Tuesday.

I've played the pointer version of RE4 on the Wii and the remote breaks the game. The encounters/enemies should have been redesigned to account for the improved aiming and I kind of missed the rad laser scope. So I just use the controller. I feel the same way about those iOS port of Cave shooters.
The first step to solving your problem is to admit you have one. Turn up the difficulty if you consider controls that actually work to be a crutch.
I also play PC Dead Space with a 360 controller.
That I can actually understand, because I don't like the mouse movement in that series. Firstblood nailed it when he said we need an analog stick on the left with a mouse on the right.
But are you actually playing on arcade difficulty? iOS normal is actually arcade super easy mode, you'll want hell difficulty for arcade normal.
p.s. Even though mouse aiming normally sucks in Dead Space, switch to a mouse to trivialize the stupid asteroid shooting part.
