Three Dog was given permission by Bethesda to tease Fallout 4, driving speculation that a formal announcement is imminent. If I remember right, the VGA unveiling of Skyrim was within a year of its release, so perhaps we are looking at an early 2014 launch?
Oblivion was released in early 2006, about 4 months after 360 release. So yea, I would guess that Betheseda would want to do the same thing.
It would be nice to have Obsidian back for this. While I liked Fallout 3, Bethesda's writers are simply not on the level of 1, 2 and New Vegas. Maybe we'll get another spinoff in a few years.
New Vegas was story and mission wise better than Skyrim.
I want the same team using the Skyrim assets and engine, please. I'm more excited for this than I was for Skyrim btw, the world and mechanics of Fallout is just the tops.
It would be interesting to see Obsidian do story and design outsourcing for other developers, a la Red Company.
I'd like to see them do QA for EA and Microsoft. Actually, I think they already might for MS.
I like the story in Fallout 3 more than New Vegas, but the individual character writing (save for the father in 3) was definitely inferior. Soooo... Bethesda does the main story arc and gives it to Obsidian to flesh out the details? And then hires Valve to do QA.

This is the most exciting news I've heard since it was rumored that Bethesda folks were in Boston doing research. My feelings on 3 & New Vegas: 3 had a better world and history. I loved D.C. and Three Dog was awesome. New Vegas had better writing and better conflict in the story, but the world wasn't as interesting to me. The DLC in New Vegas was awesome, though.
No matter, this is a day one purchase for me. I hadn't enjoyed a game as much as I did 3/New Vegas since Earthbound on the SNES.

The folks over at reddit have a post about this and have deconstructed the site assets to show that they have fallout in the title names. It's also rumored to be taking place in Boston.

They show it off now to get that hype train rolling. Their conference is gonna be packed to the gills. Maybe it'll be playable at their joint in E3.

Bethesda, if I recall, has always announced games in the same year or within a year of release. It's kind of nice actually.
I think a 2015 release is pretty much guaranteed for this one.

This one is Bethesda's baby and they took a year and a half(ish) last time from reveal to release. I'd love for it to be this October though.

That gives them six months. Their previous quickest turn around was 8 between announcement and release. They also released Oblivion in March so they'll obviously do whenever.
That being said the last time they announced a Fallout game in June it came out in October of the next year.
I'd be fucking stoked if it came out this year, but their track record doesn't make me think it will, only my hopes do.
They haven't shipped a game in a while though.
To follow this all the way through, they could have announced it at last year's Video Game Awards but maybe they chose not to.
I still have a shitload of Witcher 3 to play. Then there's Persona 5, Yakuza 5, Life is Strange. If this releases during the holidays, I'll never see the outdoors.

edit: Bethesda's online store listed it as "TBD 2015," though it's now been changed to just "TBA."
Some guy on reddit, 11 months ago, called that it was in Boston and would be announced this month as well as tons of other things that so far check out.
His claim is that he worked for Bethesda and this will be out this October. So, that's the version of the truth I currently choose to believe because it makes me the happiest.
