Because it would use the same headset as the PC. I don't really need an army of them.
The wait for this tech feels like what the wait for a new wave of next Gen consoles should feel like. My demand froths, and I daydream of the new possibilities. This is the true next Gen.
Waiting for the PS4 felt exactly like waiting for the N64 RAM pak.
Because John Carmack is on the case. Exciting stuff. This has applications beyond games.
I sometimes imagine I'm in some peaceful place when I'm trying to get to sleep. Like in a room at the top of some ridiculously high pyramid, in the middle of a desert, surrounded by water. The room at the top of the pyramid is made from thick plexiglass, and the bottom of the pyramid is just a frame, so I can see out in all directions. When it rains I can lie in the bed, and look up and see the dark clouds, and the droplets hitting the glass and running down.
I could theoretically use the editing tools in whatever engine Bethesda uses in their next ES game, make this place, and then go there! Of course it wouldn't be great for sleeping, having to open my eyes to see it and all, but still. What a way to relax.
Virtual vacations are coming. There are so many applications, really. It's hard for me to imagine this tech not completely taking off. Might not be until the headsets are no bigger than those blocky shades old people wear, but how far away is that? Ten years? Five?
I'm way in.
Big "Second Life" user I see.
I got my dev kit today. Shit is INSANE. Even being low res and having no positional tracking, its so fucking imersive and cool. Dreadhalls is the scariest fucking thing i've ever played, i screamed like a fucking girl playing it. I can't even imagine how terrifying a big budget horror game will be on this thing.
