It has a real Demon's/Dark Souls vibe.
The Vita could use a good Dark Souls clone.
Honster Munter developed by Mocpac
For what it's worth, and it might not be much, this is selling really well in Japan, including moving Vita hardware.
The Vita also had a big, ol' price drop. I'm sure that helped. Just like it helped the 3DS!
Hey, Sony! Did you hear that? It might help in the USA, too!
They do love their MonHun.
So do I.
I didn't think Inafune could be more my favorite person ever and then he saved the Vita.
The demo for this is out today, and your progress in it will transfer to the actual release.
Played the first couple of missions in the single player game. The story is very nicely framed by the nameless main character (you, I suppose) reading through a necronomicon-style book that holds the promise of a means to escape your current imprisonment. The production values are really nice.
So far I've only killed smaller monsters. Their corpses can be converted into either health or materials. Your different forms of attack come directly from these materials. You can carry up to 6 in two quick menus and switch on the fly between them. There is a bit of delay when switching to some forms so you can't just spam them. As examples, you can use a rock to make a defensive shield, an axe blade to summon an axe, blood to uh, machine gun blood at an enemy (at the expense of your health) etc. Controls are very reminiscent of monhun. It feels like it's somewhere in the middle between monhun as the slow, lower end and GEB at the fast action end.
I hven't even looked at the multi game since the sp is actually pretty well done and interesting. I wonder how far the demo goes?
I cleared out almost everything in the demo and am going for an evil route, since I had started sacrificing bosses before I knew about the multiple endings/difficulty so I figured I'll go all the way. I just picked up the full version and the sales guy gave me a pre-order code for the heck of it, so I've got the Japanese voice track that I'll never use and a bonus outfit. Whoop whoop.
The demo is a pretty small taste of the main game. It's enormous and filled with content. I know a lot of the later bosses are just palette swaps, but you're not going to run out of stuff to do if you dig it.
omg I bought it let's do this
Let me know when you are able to select network. That's where I stopped.
I tried going into a network first thing with the full version, but it was a bunch of guys around level 30 and I was like 2/7 and the demon thing we were fighting just mopped the floor with all of us. Then I tried to play a shard mission and grinded for a bit up to 5/11 because I had forgotten about getting eagle eye vision from the Anima's bleed effect, so I didn't know how to track down shards like an idiot. Whole lot of being a pro going on here.
Also, after you die in a multiplayer mission you can still move around in ghost form and put debuffs on monsters and buffs on the players, which is pretty cool.
Nice.
So even though they warned me like three times I tried to fight Magusaur right off the bat because I thought that was the next part, not realizing this shit was like Chrono Trigger NG+ and you can fight that boss at any time. I died right away and got a credits roll and was all like, "Oops."
Then I was combining abilities like I have been for a while when I decided to take another peek at the fuse menu, which I saw before but ignored because I couldn't do anything with it yet. Then I realized I probably shouldn't have been combining the basic abilities in favor of fusing more awesome abilities and then combining those instead, so I was kicking myself a second time.
Anyway, just took down the Elven Queen and unlocked the ridiculous hunter's outfit. I don't even understand what they're trying to go for with these costumes besides someone who was crazy drunk when they raided a costume store.
Soul Sacrifice is free starting Tuesday on PS+
I guess that's one way to get people to play it.
Is it not good? I don't have a Vita but I thought it looked pretty cool.
The demo didn't hold my interest.
I will download this and it will take up a space on my home screen while I play through Rayman Origins a second time om a smaller screen.
The presentation is very well done. The story is good, and I want to find out what happens. The game itself is fine but kind of easy and maybe a little awkward? There's something off about it.
I want to try it multi, though, and not with strangers. It's free now, let's do this thing.
Yes, let's. There's even a ton of free DLC that they've been releasing which I've never touched.
I don't like that all attacks need to be recharged. It's easy enough to get more charges, but having to run around to find "ammo dumps" even for just punching things seems odd.
If you guys multiplayer this, count me in. How many at once?
Four I believe.
I'd rather grind out concrete armor and weapons that I then have forever than weird limited use abilities... I don't know.
I'll have PSN+ as of this Friday after the Black Friday prices hit. I've had my eye on this game so it's a good reason to get excited about Plus membership.
Does multiplayer only unlock after the first run of levels? I don't see it yet.
This is a pretty fun Monster Hunter-ish thing with a weird inventory system. It seems like a lot of trial and error is needed in order to go into a fight well-prepared, but the fights are pretty fun. And you're treated to weird-ass shadow puppet story time between levels. Joy! This feels like it could be a blast with well-coordinated multiplayer.
