From what I remember before some weapon trees are kind of stunted until you get to certain points in the game. The switch axe and longsword were like story related and took forever to open up. Dunno how they're handling the tons of new weapons that were introduced. Maybe they're all viable throughout and well-balanced, or maybe it's monhun.
I'll try to play more and see, I really don't know what changes were made.

Yeah, dung bombs really help to separate monsters. That's a great tip. Paint bombs also help greatly at first when you don't really know where a monster will be or where he will go to sleep.
Multiplayer quests for the same monsters are usually much higher level than single player quests.

Paint bombs are great throughout. unless your trying to capture a monster and have minds eye and capture guru, paint bombs, paint shot, and paint coatings are a must.
also all the weapon are viable at all levels. some more than others. Lance, Gunlance,GreatSword, and Hammer destroy things a little faster than the rest. but that doesnt mean you should switch. just means you'll be fighting for an extra......5 min or so.totally dependent on where you're hitting with each weapon on a specific monster. yes where you hit matters greatly in how much damage you're doing. Hammers are almost always head. K.O. them bitches. The Raths take most cutting damage on their wings. Shots their tails are teh weak spot. it goes on and on. This game is deep if you really want to get the most out of it. From headlocking in mh1 to killing g rank elder dragons naked with a sliver of health at the start. with nothing more than a greatsword, adrenaline 2, and skill. sorry i went on a rant.

This game is consuming, man. Been playing a lot of local multiplayer and we're all getting really into it. My Wii U is no longer neglected and we got our Slide Pad LLs today.
I started with Light Crossbow and was enjoying it (and was enjoying annoying my friends with Pellets), but I'm all about the hammers now.

It's great to see you get into the series. It makes sense that you'd be able to appreciate a game like this.
I stopped playing the 3DS game because underwater battles control like shit without a second stick. Where did you guys order from? I don't want to wait two weeks, but it's probably been two weeks of me bitching and I could have had it by now. Fuck Nintendo.

I ordered mine from Amazon for $40. Literally two days later a thread went up on CAG about some people selling them for as little as $25 shipped. But since it was already in my hand, I didn't return/rebuy.
My son and I need to get back into it. I've spent the last two days off catching up on movies/tv shows.
Need moar MONHUN!
p.s. I don't like the LL CCP. The analog is sooo far away from the buttons. It's good that it's there at all I suppose, but the placement is far from ideal.

I got mine from NCSX, they just restocked like Monday.
-
I have one on the way from eBay, ordered last week when I saw the CAG thread.

I wish this game had online through a reasonable manner. I really want to buy it but for only being single player it'd be smarter to just play my MH3 on Wii.
