There's a small Japanese 3DS Tri G thread from ages ago, but maybe it's best we start a new thread incorporating both the 3DS and the Wii U localized releases coming soon:

Yes, people might get confused with the three posts in the existing thread if we don't start a new one.
So this Wii U game is just a port of the Wii game and the real sequel is on 3DS, right? I'm always confused with this Monster Hunter stuff.
In typical Capcom fashion, they're releasing 3 on everything they can ahead of the release of 4, which is the 3DS exclusive, for now. Where hilarity ensued is that all the Nintendo fans are now rabid for this garbage series, because they think it's going to stay exclusive, as if anything Capcom makes ever does.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is an expanded version of Monster Hunter Tri (Wii). The Wii U version is an HD port of the 3DS version with online play and voice chat.Quote:

Ed, this is easy. The way monhun works is you have a main title release, like Monster Hunter, and then later they put out the "G" version, like Monster Hunter G. This adds different colored variations of existing monster species plus new weapons, armors, and more. The touch screen camera is far from ideal but functional enough to not pick up a Megazword pro for my system.

Trying the Wii U demo of this yesterday was my first time actually trying this series and it was fuckin' weird but kinda neat. Some coworkers are getting in on it so I figure I'll give it a shot.

it took me like three tries to beat the "novice" hunt in the demo, doubt there will be any of that!
I tried the 3DS demo and did NOT like how it handled. Use the D-pad to move the camera? WTF? I hope the retail version lets you map the buttons, because this game screams to use the shoulder buttons for camera movement. The D-pad should be for hot keying items or something, not the camera.
In the 3DS version, there's a Target Camera icon - in the form of a picture of a monster - on the bottom-right of the touchscreen. (Located top-right for the Wii U version.)
Touch that to activate it and tapping the L button will automatically re-center the camera to the monster you're hunting.
Edit: Tapping the L button, without the Target Camera activated, will re-center the camera in whatever direction you are facing.

From my understanding, the demo doesn't support CPP but the final game will. Still super stupid that they wouldn't highlight the hell out of that feature in the demo and cut it right out.
They certainly highlighted that the demo doesn't support it. A clarification that the full game does would've been nice.
The game's been out for over a year in Japan and it certainly supports it there.

Tried the 3ds demo. very Nice looking. I put it next to portable 3rd, and it ruins smoother,looks cleaner. Better shadows, better effects. I'm happy. Its wierd not having to use the claw(method of using your thumb for the stick, while at the same time useindg your index and middle finger for camera) for camera controls. The monster target comes in really handy, so does the camera turn during dodges. Urukususu looks way better on 3ds, and had new moves, so does plesioth. Can't wait to farm deviljho on this.still getting used to underwater battles. P3rd didn't have those that's really where the camera controls become a problem. Overall I'm happy though.

the worst thing to do in MonHun is to go in swinging. its honeslty good to go into a hunt with a new monster, just to see what all of thier attacks and tells are. thats pretty much the key. knowing what a monster will do by how theylook will have you avoiding everything from devil jho's dragon breath, to Jinouga's screw upper attack. also, flash bombs for gettign that potion or whetstone in.Quote:

The best I can say is that I didn't completely hate it. In fact, I found it kind of appealing minus the gimpy controls. I played Kid Icarus style, with the stylus manipulating the camera. It would have been easier if I knew what all the buttons did.

Tried the demo. This needs the CPP I think. The center on monster camera is at least a decent compromise.
You guys who are going to send an "ok" to releasing a multiplayer game with no online and then buy a second Circle Pad Pro for a system that should have had it built in frustrate me. The Wii U version of this I get. That's a matter of taste, but supporting the 3DS version is just sending entirely the wrong messages.
There is technically a way to take it online.
I'm still holding out a glimmer of hope that someone finds a way to tunnel this shit.

Im already liking the feel of it more than p3rd on the psp. the framerate is better, no jaggy ass lines. a myriad of information on the bottom screen. best thing they ever did was move the series to the 3DS
