He looks and acts likes he's 6 or 7. Not much of a reader.
But boy does he love zombies!
He's seen both Silent Hill movies, plays the games, and he is here today because both of his Left 4 Dead discs broke and he needs replacements.
He wants another zombie game as well, so he's checking out Dead Island.
Moms is with him, and she thinks it's adorable how much he is into this stuff. She was beaming as she related all of the above to me.
This situation bugs the shit out of me. I'm a big believer in the relative innocence of kids and I fought hard to keep my children young until it was time to be grown. There were daily arguments with my daughter about makeup and clothes. I had to argue with my son about why he can't play certain games when all his friends can. With the amount of adults who cry that they never had a childhood, I feel justified in my position. Kids want so much to do all the things adults do. My kids grew tired of my "You'll be an adult for 75% of your life, enjoy childhood while you can" rant. (For what it's worth, my outlook was as soon as they hit 14, the shackles came off. Read/Watch/Listen/Play with what you want. I will give my opinions, but it's up to you to decide. It's worked thus far, and my daughter actually thanked me the other day for not letting her grow up too soon.)
On a professional level, I can't stand kids playing these games because they've become the latest scapegoat for the ills of the world (just like movies, comics, and rock and roll before them). Dick politicians want to ban violent games because dick parents don't parent. Rated M games aren't meant for children, but "it's nothing little Johnny hasn't seen or heard before hurr hurr hurr."
What do you think?
