Are We Warping Kids or Am I Too Uptight?

I went to a pulpit thumping Baptist church, and I never experienced what IP is describing. Sure, at the end of the sermon there was a "get right with Christ or be in danger of hellfire" come and get saved spiel, but mostly it was about trying to be Christ-like and be decent people. Wednesday nights were almost like AA meetings. People would stand up, describe some trial they're going through, and ask for prayer and support.
There was no death obsession and widows didn't wear black and weep and moan every Sunday. No one grieved the loss of "they're" childish "nativity."
I don't know what the fuck kind of church IP went to. Did they handle snakes?

have you read the bible? Do you understand the context of hell, faith, being saved?

We're talking about a religion's who main mechanism is that God killed his only son so that when you died, you would not go to hell.

Its all about death. If you think otherwise, you're just not paying attention.

I'd rather believe that everyone just disappears than 99% of asia is in hell right now. Millions and millions of souls in agony for all of eternity is not comforting. Its only comforting if you aren't intelligent enough to read harry potter and know Snape got fucked over.

I realize, for better or worse, that organized religion is also a method of transferring culture and creating a community meeting place.

But the bible, the book that christian churches use, is about death.

OT: A local radio station is talking about Family Guy and the perception to the host that it's become a far more mean and terrible show over the years. The case made in point? The bevy of rape jokes that are teaching kids, boys and girls, that rape is just so lol Just Because.

I know we've got some TNL parents, and I wondered how it makes you folks feel to know that 12 year olds find rampant racism, anti-semitism, and rape just so lol. I get that the show at least started with a sense of irony, but you've gotta be a little older to understand such a concept. Plus I think the show really has turned into a a game of one-ups-manship, trying to out offend itself as much as possible just for the sake of doing it.

Do kids even know they are laughing at those things? Like, is that even what they are learning from it?

Because I watched porkies a lot when I was like 3. I just thought naked people were funny. I wasn't being conditioned to think sex was a joke. I had no idea what sex was or that it had anything to do with it.

(of course, I have heard of kids getting all the way to the 3rd grade, thinking it was ok to say Nigger because of music and not even knowing what the word meant.)
