IT WAS A FIREFIGHT!
This is an entry into the "Oh Dear God Please Let Me Be A Movie!" category, and has nothing to do with Games as Art. Games trying as hard as they can to be another art form entirely isn't going to help them be taken seriously, except among people who haven't the slightest clue as to what a video game is.
James
Willem Dafoe is in it though. Video game. It's a video game confirmed.
So this is kind of like Heavy Rain gameplay wise or is it more interactive?
Apparently liking Gamestop on Facebook will get you demo codes, I on the other hand will do no such thing.
Still this game has me very curious as to how it'll meld the gameplay with the story, hopefully something both compelling and fun.
I played the demo last night. It looks nice and I liked the motorcycle segment, but unsurprisingly, it's an interactive movie from a failed filmmaker.
Although with how unwieldly the camera and the controls for Aiden can be, I'm not sure they could do any better than this pathetic excuse for a game. Especially when, at least for the part of the demo in the town with the SWAT teams, Aiden is nonsensically gimped with arbitrary limits on what it can affect.
I refuse to care about this game until someone tells me it doesn't fall apart in the third act like all their games.
So I think I really like this.
I think.
It improves on the Heavy Rain interface/controls in that most everything is just flicking the right stick towards stuff instead of awkwardly trying to mimic specific gestures all the time. And switching to Aiden and floating around to explore/fuck-around in the area is pretty damn incredible.
It's a beautiful game. Some of the effects when you're in Aiden mode are out of control. The story is really all over the place, both in quality and the fact that it constantly jumps back and forth over its timeline. Reviews are coming in right now and I'm not at all surprised at the mix of high & low scores. It's definitely not for everybody, but the high notes it has hit for me have been super effective.
