"full game"
Maybe I should finish 2 and actually start 3 one of these years.
Saints Row IV? All is right with the world.
SR3 kind of sucked. I think I'm done with this franchise.
SR to the 3rd was crazy fun, looking forward to more ridiculous stuff.
SR3 is the best thing that happened to the GTAIII genre because it's actually enjoyable.
A sequel? Bring it on.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Media#Deep_Silver
in case anybody is in the same boat as me and went "who in the fuck is deep silver and how are they publishing the game"
vvv obviously, but I had never seen a deep silver pubilshed game so I didn't know what the company was
They acquired the rights in the THQ bankruptcy liquidation auction.
SR3 felt really unfinished to me. It's weird how many side missions (that were completely separate from the story missions in SR2) were used as required, supposedly "story" missions. The cutscenes around them also felt really abrupt, like they were stitched together from the remnants of intros and outros for proper story missions. That first tiger escort mission started with a cutscene that sounded like you were about to embark on some ridiculous Karate Kid-style training regimen, only for it to fade to black and hand you control of a car with a tiger in it, with no comment on how this actually occurred.
On top of that, many of the side missions themselves just felt plain boring to me. The helicopter escort ones in particular were exercises in tedium. Nothing like the joyful insanity of SR2's bodyguard or fuzz missions. Even the city itself felt less interesting. The one in SR2 had a surprising amount of variety and you could easily identify where you were based on landmarks and the general style of the buildings. Everything in SR3 was a mishmash of skyscrapers, suburban homes, and industrial facilities.
A lot of the side missions were also recycled again. IIRC they ditched most of the fun new stuff from SR2 and as such I was playing some of these missions for the third time. No thanks.
And yea, the city was really bad. It wasn't exactly great in the other 2 but it was distinctive.
I will play this.
I only played the story missions in SR3 but they were amazing. I recall people expressing a lot of disappointment about the side missions that I never touched, but the main game was great start to finish.

Apparently The Leader Of The Saints (really wish they'd give him/her a name, even just a last name like Shepard in Mass Effect) becomes President. Why not, how else are they gonna top the last one in crazy?
I think 3 was stylistically the definitive one, maybe not in content.
So if it's 3's attitude but content more like 2's? Could be super crazy amazing.
Hopefully it has more Bonnie Tyler on infinite loop.
'Merica, FUCK YEAH!
I bet this game is going to be shit like all the DLC for the previous game was.
bite your tongue heathen. it shall be glorious!
I wish these games were as good as the special editions, now with a rotating display case!
That special edition is gloriously over the top. Not for everyone I suppose, but I expect IV to be a blast.

lol
I'm kind of surprised all the bonuses don't add up to more than $1 million
I think it comes pretty close to being a million (probably evens out if you count the effort to arrange it all), but I suspect the potential for "OMG SOMEBODY ACTUALLY BOUGHT THIS" PR makes it worthwhile for the company in the extremely unlikely event that somebody buys it.
I hope someone actually buys that.
This game looks so fucking over the top and out there it's amazing.
Who the fuck would want the combination of a Lamborghini and a Prius? Can the Prius be converted into a lawn mower or something?
I think you're trying to apply too much logic to this.
Probably. What is a Super Car Membership? I'd be all about Hostage Rescue and Spy Training.
So in terms of free-roaming games I have sitting around to play, it's sounding like I play Saboteur or Crackdown over SR3. Confirm/deny plz.
Confirmed, as long as it's Saboteur
I lost interest in all three of them but I did like Saboteur the most.
Deny. SR 3 is fun.
If you want to screw around in the world Crackdown is great. If you want a great time through story mode then SR3. I haven't played Saboteur.
Crackdown is my favourite of those. It's really a sandbox game in the truest sense. There aren't even any missions beyond "the gang bosses are somewhere around these locations. Go kill them." I couldn't stand The Saboteur. And Saints Row The Third is a major step back from Saints Row 2 in nearly every way. It's not a terrible game, but the best part of the game is the story missions - when they aren't just repurposed side activities.
I really didn't like Saints Row 3. Like bVork said it was a major step back from the second game.
Going by the character creator this game looks like the laziest of cash ins, which is disappointing - but kind of expected, since it was fast-tracked in a last ditch effort to save THQ.
You people have lost your minds. SR3 is second only to Red Dead in the open world genre.
Oh yeah, I beat RDR also. Still, it takes a lot for an Open World game to make me sit through and play the story. I enjoy messing around more in those types of games.
Next Gen RDR better be the next Rockstar game.
Damn right.
Briefly. I have the Steam version. It didn't hook me like SR3.
See, I have the same story. I played 1 to completion, 2 for a few hours, 3 to completion.
I beat them all (although I took a huge break in the middle of part 1) and would rank story missions as SR3>2>1. What Diff is mainly talking about is that the open-world stuff in SR2 is great and sucks balls in SR3.
Right now I'm just hoping SRIV isn't shit from being something of a rush job.
The open world stuff from SR3 was mostly recycled from the first game, which I thought was weird - SR2 had a lot of fun stuff they didn't bring over. And they took out a lot of the customization options. And the city was really flat and boring.
I'm not trying to tell anyone they are stupid for liking the game or anything. But as an open world game SR3 wasn't even the best game in the series. Or the second best.
Aside from a little Crackdown, I hadn't played a sandbox game since GTA3 before starting SR3 this weekend. This genre is exactly as I left it. Side quests are still checklists of cars and hits, clipping through the ground is still a thing, police meter, bad camera, loldicks, hehebadwords, huhuhhookers, block after block of identical brown scenery, and the same ol' sclerotic gunplay. There is no reason for third person shooting to be this poor in the post Gears of War era.
SR3 let you drive like, an f-14 through the open world. Is that in the other 2 games?
Excerpts from a review:Quote:
While there is a lot of fun to be had in Saints Row IV, I found some of my enjoyment starting to wane around the 10 hour mark. This is mostly due to some of the missions being not much more than a few Activities (mini-games/side missions) grouped together. The Activities are decent, and there are many new ones too, but more often than not I just felt like I was killing time playing mini-games, rather than performing godly tasks worthy of an all-powerful being. This lack of variety in the main missions is definitely a shortcoming. Activities are implemented so that you can even start playing new ones while already in the middle of missions made up of Activities. Yup, Activities make up a big chunk of the gameplay. I think this is likely to be the biggest complaint with Saints Row IV.
Despite the excellent, game-changing superpower additions, it often feels like shortcuts were taken during the development process. I ran into some pretty interesting glitches, including one that completely disabled my Blast Power Set during the last couple of missions. I also had the game lock up on me several times. During one mission, the game would lock up on me at the same spot each time. I was only able to proceed by playing through a different mission first, and then returning to the problem spot. Oddly enough, I only encountered these major issues in the last hour or two of the game.
Volition did a very good job on creating an enjoyable Saints Row game that plays quite differently from from its predecessor, released just 1.5 years ago. Perhaps having the Boss in a more traditional superhero role, rather than a “Matrix hero” could have presented additional opportunities for customization (superhero HQ, vehicles, symbols, etc) and more unique mission types. More choices of superpowers, allowing players to create unique heroes would have been appreciated as well. As is, there’s lots of fun to be had, but the combination of sequel and Activity fatigue keeps Saints Row IV from being The One.
Sounds like the same shit they did to pad out Saints Row 3.
I'll get this for $4.99 next summer.
I got a code for 3 off reddit when it came in that humble bundle and I've yet to boot it up even once.
Hard to be excited for this game in that context.
This game sure is Saints Row III part II(So far, I haven't unlocked super powers yet, but I can see how that's going to happen).
I'm ok with this, but I could see how some people aren't.
Unlock the super powers. It turns into Prototype done right.
Excellent. I only had a few minutes late last night to check it out, loved the Armageddon nod and then pleasantville intro.
That swagger when he walked.
well, so FAR its prototype done right. i'm about an hour ahead of you
That walk is the Vince McMahon walk 100%.
money money money.....
The beginning of this game is the fucking business. It's the exact level of ridiculousness this series needed to get to as far as I'm concerned.
The environments seem poorly-optimized for the superpowers - it's easy to get stuck in little parts of the houses. They feel really tacked on too, like they said hey superpowers are a big deal now! Let's put them in the game...somehow! MONEY!
This game is tons of fun, but it seems like the 360 is really chugging. If it's your only option for playing the game, I'd still play it, but it's waaaaay smoother on a decent PC. Even if you can't turn on all the bells and whistles the PC framerate is worth the trade. I've played 70% of this on a Redboxed 360 disc, but when this hits $20 on PC I'm playing it again.
Might as well just wait for it to be bundled up again rather than pay $20 if you've already enjoyed it on 360.
Korly appears to have nailed it:

You can't get 30 FPS a lot of times. The last console game I finished, TLoU, hovered around 24 a decent amount of time.
These systems can't get it done anymore. In fact SR3 was the game that motivated me to get a PC, and that game came out 18 months ago. I'm definitely glad a new generation is coming.
Just finished the Metal Gear level, and look what popped up next...

Hilarskis!
Holy shit!
Near the end of the game you stumble across Keith David and Rowdy Roddy Piper fighting in an alley. Afterwards, the Hot Rod joins you.

I finished the main story path on 360 with about 10 hours and 3 or 4 crashes. There are some really amazing moments in this game but I think I liked part 3 a little bit more. The super powers make it a very different game in the minute to minute gameplay and everytime the story took away my powers I was pissed. Looking forward to playing it again on PC.
Short critical path doesn't bother me as much as the dearth of side activities in the last game. I've heard this one is way better on that score. Confirm/deny?
I have seen online people finishing this 100% in 20 hours or so, so it actually seems to be right in line with SR3 content wise.
Looks like holding out for GTA was the right call then.
I don't think they're going to be all that similar.
About ten minutes into driving the first time the main character and some other dude sang along to an entire sublime song on the radio.
It was actually awesome.
It gets better. Playing through it now.
That was actually a comment about me playing the third.
Is the fourth one better or worse? Or a more accurate question is should I buy it at $10 or $5?
Fourth is far better than three
But playing 3 will greatly increase your enjoyment of 4.
That's surprising to me, IV sounded like a big cash grab.
I'm playing through 3 as well. Loving it. Won't buy 4 till it hits 20 or less on a Steam sale.
Yeah, that's about perfect. At $60, I've had some buyer's remorse over it.
4 is very entertaining but it's definitely standing on the shoulders of 3. If you can accept that buy it now. If not wait till it drops to 40.
How's the DLC? The season pass just went on sale for $4.
I've only played Enter the Dominatrix, but I thought it was a really fun idea. I typically don't do DLC, but it was an example of when I'm okay with that kind of content. So, if it's $4 for that and everything else, I'd say it's worth it.
Edit: Just saw that the season pass only includes two DLC missions and one weapon, which I think is kind of ridiculous for a "season pass". But, if you're looking at paying $2 for each mission, I'd say that Dominatrix is worth that price. Having tried the Christmas DLC yet, so can't speak to that.
Yeah the season pass is pretty light on content but for $4 I was like "eh fuck it".
Yeah, it just went on sale on Steam. $10 for the game, but I can buy the Franchise Pack for $18.75 that includes SR 2, SR 3 and all it's DLC, and SR 4 and all it's DLC. But I already have 3 and all it's DLC from the last Steam sale and I hear 2 is a hot mess on PC, so I'm wondering if it's worth ponying up the extra 8.75 for SR4's DLC or just buy the game itself.
I just bought SRIV and the season pass, with the latter appearing to include the only two pieces of actual content in giant list of DLC.
Everything old is new again.
This was the line to be crossed, IMO.
I will gladly purchase this excellent game because I didn't purchase it the first time. They should totally include Saints Row 3 though.
