Supergiant Games, the talented developer behind 2011 action RPG Bastion, has announced its next project - Transistor.
The sci-fi adventure is set in a futuristic city and stars a young woman, named in an initial reveal trailer as Red.
"Everybody has a voice in Cloudbank. Now the city's most influential voices are disappearing one by one. It is Red's turn," the footage teases.
The game includes isometric gameplay similar to that of Bastion. What appears to be a side-scrolling section is also shown.
Red will fight with an "extraordinary weapon of unknown origin" - what looks like a hulking big sword. Footage suggests it will have a number of uses.
Fans of Bastion will also recognise the vocal talents of Ashley Barrett, who sang on that game's memorable soundtrack.
Supergiant has said it is yet to choose release platforms, although its vague 2014 launch suggests an appearance on next-gen consoles is a possibility.
I loved Bastion. It was the heir to the Mana games that I always wanted but Square-Enix never managed to do. Another game in the same vein but in a new setting sounds great to me! What doesn't sound great is the 2014 release date. That's a long ways away...
Edit: oh my god, I can't believe what I did with the thread name. Can somebody with forum superpowers please change it to "Transistor" and end my humiliation?

Bastion was OK. I didn't finish it because it seemed like there was not much happening and the challenge rooms sucked

Yeah, it was gorgeous and well made but bored me to quit.

I wasn't a huge fan, but I bought it because I like what the developers did. They made a really pretty game without too much help. I'll probably check their new game out as well.

I liked the narration.

I didn't get very far in Bastion, but it made a good first impression on me. I'm interested.

I'm down with that aesthetic.

Bastion was a fun, quick little adventure that looked great and sounded great but really just whet my appetite for more. I'm in for this.

Bastion was totally awesome and I liked the challenge rooms.

I loved Bastion and I crushed all the challenge rooms. There WERE a few tedious parts, but nothing too bad compared to other games I've played. Really liked the weapon variety and upgrade pace. The balance for time-reward was pretty spot on, I think.

I never played Bastion. I imagine it's either good or bad or maybe half and half

15 minutes of footage:
This looks to be far more than just a science fiction Bastion. The pause mode that lets you plan out and then execute a series of movements and attacks reminds me a lot of Frozen Synapse. And that's by no means a bad thing. 2014 can't come soon enough.

I've liked what I've seen, I'm definitely interested.

Listening to the narrator talk while I walked around looking at other stuff made me roll my eyes a little and gave me the impression it was Bastion 2.0. The lines were murder so fuck playing it.

This comes out on Tuesday. I COMPLETELY forgot and slammed out a preorder like the cool kids. Now and now I can't wait.
I'm pretty surprised this isn't coming out on 360. The girlfriend is going to be pretty damn sad!

It's probably not coming to 360/One due to the parity clause.
Maybe it'll be ported at a later date but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a Bastion situation. It's a bummer I can't play it since I don't have a PS4 yet but I have so much stuff to play it can honestly wait.

Even without a PS4 you can still play it on PC or PS3.

Yes you are. Bastion was/is the shit. One of the 20 best games of the generation.

I liked Bastion a lot, but it felt like I'd seen everything it was likely to throw at me very quickly. Never finished it.

Bastion had amazing visuals and sound, but it was the mechanics and the customization that really hooked me.

Bastion gets better as you get more abilities and weapons, especially when you crank up the difficulty modifier totems.
It was cool.

This game is very fun and somehow more customizable than Bastion was.

I started playing this game today, and I love it. The combat system is really impressive, maybe the best I've played in an RPG. The customization manages to be very simple yet at the same time very deep, I've already played with a number of varied builds, all of which were viable if you adjust your play style accordingly. I just wish they'd put as much effort in telling the story as they did with the rest of the game, literally every other aspect of the game is great.
It is leaps and bounds better than Bastion, which I thought was gorgeous but boring as shit.
