If repeating one stage is bone-crushing, how can the actual penalty for losing three lives in the original, repeating every stage, be sensationally described? Spleen-pulverizing?
Like a hammer vasectomy?
Suicide-inducing?
Guy went straight to "epic" and has nothing to describe the actual reality of the situation.
"Enemies are rarely more complex than "walk back and forth until someone jumps on my head," and reappear instantly if you backtrack two feet and return to the same spot. The NES version was forced to employ such cheap difficulty modifiers due to memory constraints, but there's no reason to bring these elements back in the remake."
The reason they respawn is because you need them to pogo off of in many cases, right? (I haven't played this in a long time)
Yes.
That reviewer probably doesn't even know about the multiple endings.
In some cases you do. It sounds like the reviewers expected something more than just a remake, they expected a whole new game. Everything I've read has described this as being very faithful to the original, which is something that I find is still enjoyable to play.
Did you see the one reviewer who bitched and moaned because his free gold nintendo repro cart didn't include a download code for the game.
The levels are like what, 4 minutes long? The whole game can probably be beaten in under 30 minutes. This isn't a 50-hour epic that is asking you to redo the fucking library in Halo, get fucked.
So stupid.
Some people complained about this remake being too faithful, some (Joystiq) complained about it changing too much.
Obviously there is no right answer here.
From what little I saw in the previews the random voice clips are a terrible and pointless interruption of what should've been constant gameplay. I hope those can be turned off but I would probably side with too much changed because of that.
People complaining it's too faithful are either terrible at platformers or wanted something that wasn't a remake. There's a Ducktales third-person shooter on iOS that's probably closer to what they're looking for.
You can skip them, hell I skipped them at PAX.
Fuck yeah. I'd like to turn them off entirely but a skip will be acceptable.
I'll watch them once. That's my general rule of thumb.
I could see Donald snapping and mowing down Duckburg with an AK.

Quote:
Players are trying to help Scrooge McDuck recover his stolen gold, which conveniently appears in piles that players can approach and collect from. Once you reach the maximum carryable amount, you'll try to transport it safely back to your team's helicopter. If the other team kills you (or incapacitates you -- with kid-friendly weapons like bubble guns and tennis rackets, I don't think Disney is going for the word "kill"), you’ll drop your gold for your opponent to collect. And as you’ve probably guessed, the team with the most gold wins.
I haven't played the original and I think I'd rather play that.
Are Capcom's Famicom games based on licenses pretty good in general? I've barely played them.
They're all at least good. This one happens to be great.
Who know what you'd like, but yes. Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Talespin, and Darkwing Duck are great.
Little Nemo was a lot of fun too.
I hear that the levels in this game are stretched out, making them twice or so as long, which is probably why the game seems harder.
Little Nemo was Disney distributed, iirc.
Actually holy cow that movie was a mess.
Yellow Dog, i am unfriending you on every thing including real life.
It wasn't ever Disney distributed. It was some company that closed up in the mid 90s. Discotek, aka the best anime distributor ever, distributes it now. It has a crazy production history, with like Moebius and Miyazaki and Chris Columbus and Ray Bradbury all worked on it at some point. The movie isn't the best, but i really love it.
I had it confused with Fluppy Dogs.
(There's an all-Disney characters book with a still that looks exactly like a Nemo shot, threw me off)
Only played the first level (pc) and I like it. I think the sprites look super and the music is ace (which I expected from Kaufman).
I'm trying to wrap my head around that also...
Also..

PSN version out but I went ahead with a hard copy. I'm a total whore for for solid state media.
Any excuse.

Wow really.. that's fucking hilarious...
it's good, not great but good
I hope they patch that problem where the pogo attack just up and stops working mid-stride and makes me collide with enemies/fall into pits no matter how hard I hold in the button
e: and also quick cutscene skip with a button instead of having to pause for the menu
You gotta tilt the controller and lean in to it. You'll be fine.
Swearing helps too.
That's required.
Those eagles, man.
True story. I have never beaten the first game.
Everyone I know beat this game within a couple of hours of its release. I haven't tried it yet but I bet it's going to be soul-crushing.
Dave bought it for me! YAY INSTALLING
No one should go
where eagles dare
Ninja Gaiden will make you a sexual tyrannosaurs. just like me
I've beaten it, but at what a cost? Last boss sending you back to the start of 6-1 will make you have nightmares where your teeth fall out.
I beat Ninja Gaiden... =[
Ran out of lives in the Amazon level near the end and had to restart. Then I came back and beat it without dying. Soul crushing.
Yeah but those extra 15 minutes you wasted restarting the level are priceless when you've got review deadlines hanging over your head like a guillotine over a French peasant.
Jesus, you are the worst.
I feel like I'm getting missing inputs on square (pogo button). PSN version. Anyone else getting that?
Yes and it's INFURIATING. I think that you can't pogo when you jump too low, or when you're falling without jumping. But it's inconsistent and sometimes I SWEAR that I don't pogo when I'm sure I should be able to. This is the WiiU version.
I'm using the hard pogo option on Steam with a 360 controller and am having 0 issues.
You can pogo from a fall.
I used hard pogo and non-hard. It's like one in every 20 pogos but during boss fights it's kind of irritating.
Welp. That sucks. Hope they patch it.
Just like they patched in online play for Double Dragon Neon, right?
It's nice to want things, right?
No.
Lurking the neogaf thread, I wonder how many of these people are getting hung up on the "pogo must actually hit something--not just scrooge's foot" thing and how many are actually getting missing inputs.
I really wish this was on the vita
Whaaaaaaaaat
Right?
Cuss words,
awoowoo
Now you've done it, you're in trouble
CUSS WORDS
Not goatse sites, or meme pics, but Cuss Words, Awoo-woo!
Describe the input issues.
I think the issue is being horrible and blaming the controller. I'm breezing through this on PC.
Just sayin'
That space-bar text is the reason why my image slice and Photoshop layer names only get so silly.
i hope whoever did that doesn't get into too much trouble.
Once i misspelled "Seasons" as "Sesasons" on the side of a greeting card box that was sold to a thousand or so people. No one ever said anything and it's been 3 years so i think it'll be okay
but that sinking feeling when you realize something terrible has happened because you didn't catch your own mistake is really the worst
God dammit, Chux. Fuck it I'm gonna post it anyways
My god...all the hate was just a front. You were Svensson all along.
I had a revelaiton
pogo jumps randomly stopping or flat-out not working, regardless of how much down and square/x/whatever are held
vvv no it just stops mid-jump, like I depress the button (this is despite my thumb turning white from holding the button in so tightly), and I do get the "it doesn't work at all" problem as well seeing as that stupid cunt dracula duck gobbled up 5 lives I had because the goddamn pogos didn't trigger when I hit the button so I just jumped into her instead of attacking
e: also do the sprites sometimes screw up, most noteably when talking, on the other platforms? I can't figure out if that's ;-) ~throwback~ ;-) or crummy programming on wayforwards side of things
I haven't had the randomly stopping. Is it midair or when you land? Are you landing near the edge of a brick/ledge when it happens?
My issue has been the flat-out not working. Nothing complicated...just a jump from the ground and...nothing. I just beat the moon without it happening once, but it was happening enough to be noticeable during the mines.
And, no, I'm super awesome.
I ordered the "Physical" edition, so I won't have it until next week :/
Yeah as Alan and cka said, there will be times that I'm sure I pressed the button to pogo, and it just flat-out doesn't happen. Of course there are those times when I do pogo and I get hurt, but that's because I was a little to the left or right of the dude's sprite, and I totally take ownership of that. There are also the times you fall from off-screen (like from off a chain or rope) and pogo-ing just isn't possible like that sometimes.
I just remembered they changed the controls for this remake. Is there a way to play with the original controls and if so does it make any difference?
Yeah there's the option to "hard pogo" and control the game just as you did on the NES. It doesn't make much of a difference; the input drops still happen with their case.
The pogo rules ARE the game. A DuckTales with a pogo that occasionally resists input is like a video chess game where you just kind of can't move your knights once in a while.
I guess it was never a question of whether this would be better than the original. It was a question of how much worse it would be.
cka is saying something different than George and alan. If I'm reading this right, cka is saying the pogo stops in midair while he's holding the button for no good reason. I haven't seen that happen.
I have jumped at enemies and not pogo'd and gotten hit, so maybe that's the dropped inputs the other two are talking about. Just assumed I either fucked up or this horrible 360 dpad did, but maybe that happens once in a while.
my pogo stopping thing might just be an issue with motioninjoy DS3 drivers or some shit like that I don't know, but it doesn't happen on rogue legacy or spelunky hd at all
and I also have the problem where the pogo just won't come out and I land on enemies/spikes
I recall the NES pogo being kinda twichy every once in a while, perhaps they were being too literal.
Never.
Just installed motioninjoy so I can use the PS3 pad. Feels great so far. That 360 pad is a crime against humanity.
Let's talk heart containers. I don't have the achievement so I must've missed one. I have 7 of what I assume are 8. I wish I could remember where I found them.
edit: nvm I had missed a super obvious invisible wall in the Amazon. EIGHT HEART CONTAINERS. Just TRY to fucking die, Jesus.
Did you get the amazon one? I thought that was the most well disguised.
Got the achievement at 8, alan was right it was the Amazon one I was missing. Now that I've beaten it I'll try to get the treasures under that platform. Fuck risking lives when I was just trying to beat the game.
It's sounding like I lose all my unlocks if I start a new game to try the game at a different difficulty. If that's true that is SOME GARBAGE. I have to grind these levels to unlock everything instead of just getting it as I play through the harder difficulties?
I'll look into this in a sec. I just want to play right now and it's working just fine. I'll get on it soon, thanks.
This could have been avoided if you just started on Hard like a real mensch
What exactly is the difference, anyway? Fewer hearts? Number of hits for bosses to die?
Haven't tried it yet. Sounds like fewer hearts since the achievement specifically mentions easy and normal modes.
You definitely carry over money and unlocks, duh. I dunno who mentioned that yesterday on GAF but it's not true at all. Starting a new game even says your progress will be gone EXCLUDING money and vault unlocks specifically.
I'm sorry I doubted you, WF.
Just played through Amazon level on hard. Differences that I could see: no map, like 3 more 1-ups, some cakes replaced by ice creams, heart container replaced by treasure. The boss was exactly the same but you do get a nice multiplier so you earn more money.
it's funny that we bitch about the state of Capcom, but when they bring this out and hardcore-central Giantbomb just shits all over it, Capcom must be thinking "uh, what the FUCK do you want from us?"
