Um, okay.
There actually *is* checkpointing in this new game -- and it actually makes it easier than the NES version. In the original if you died, there were only a few scant checkpoints to recover from throughout the *entire* level (a la Mega Man classic). You could actually end up re-doing entire levels over again in the NES game based on a simple mistake.
In Remastered if you lose a life, you start on the exact same screen or section. You also keep *all* the fetch items you've gotten so far. You get three lives (and more if you find Mrs. Beakley) -- more than enough to best each stage if you learn the pogo mechanics. The new Transylvania stage is also easier for example, because it doesn't contain nearly as many backwards secrets and hidden nooks.
I also go with my heart on my scores. It's a mix of choosing games I'm excited for, and getting assigned stuff. All I can really do is be honest. And honestly, I liked DuckTales Remastered more than a few other reviewers.
Beyond the difficulty complaint (which I just didn't see, having played the NES game multiple times these past few weeks), I had no issues with Scrooge's controls. Some reviews say the pogo is unreliable -- I never had that happen, ever. As long as you pick up cane-canceling (dropping the cane button mid-jump, then pressing it again to control your height), you shouldn't have any issues.
