i've always wondered about this game but never bothered to buy or rent it, nor have i heard much about it. what's it like? any good? it seems rather interesting even if the soundtrack listing on the front does nothing but deter me

It's crap.
It's very crap.
... I was expecting a decent action game. Some even said it played like a mix of Virtual On and Power Stone. It didn't even resemble either of the two. Stay away from it.
I didn't think it was that horrible actually, and especially for the 19.99 I paid for it when it was released.
It has similar gameplay to Spawn, with some wonky (in a good way) character designs.
Spawn is so much better it ain't funny.
definitely go and buy Spawn instead.
heavy metal isn't worth a shit
I've never played Spawn, but I'd reccomend the Gundam: Fed Vs. Zeon game over Heavy Metal. And that's saying something.
Geomatrix is way better than Spawn, don't believe these guys. :)
I like Geomatrix. It's a fun, arena-based fighting game. Nothing more, nothing less.
It would be awesome if Capcom made a FAKK2-style action/adventure game.
There was all kinds of hype for HMGeo some time ago on these boards, I think --- may have started it...*edit* I remember now; it was Will that started that big HMGeo thread. -you owe me twenty dollars!;)
I threw away the $20 bucks on it 'cause it always looked so cool,
and so many posters on this board couldn't be wrong...
I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to play it for more than 10 minutes. Absolutely boring. Small arenas don't seem to allow for much strategy. Truely a run and gun type game, but lacking anysort of excitement or fun. Blast or smack the shit out of your opponent, and that's it. Really lame.
The most boring Dreamcast game I own, and only slightly less disapointing than Daytona
Its not great, but not anywhere near crap- IF you only play arcade mode.
The arcade mode offers some decent arena combat set to heavy metal music (if you liked the sound of Guilty Gear, you may like this). It plays mostly like Spawn. Its something of a different flavor to pop in once and awhile.
Just STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THE 'GEOMATRIX' MODE!!!
*ahem*
It is pure shit. Featuring the most broken, crap-ass camera system ever.
worth $20?
Nope.
worth $10
Yep.
I was not blown away by this game in any way. Its very mediocure. I also bought it after reading much praise for the game on these boards. Its a little to frustrating to get your guy to do what you want some times. I think the Geomatrix mode is pretty neat actually though, something else to do other then the fighting. Its worth $10 if you can find it for that much. And other then the Megadeath songs, the sound track is shit. Its fun for maybe an hour or so, one of those games you pull out once every 6 moths, if that even.
Hmm well I found the game pretty decent, and definitely a marked improvement over Spawn. Colorful, well textured arenas, a wide variety of weapons with multiple firing modes, and decent control. The camera is annoying in two on one fights, but that's my only gripe. *-neo
Heavy Metal rules, these guys are on crack. I thought it was well worth 20 bucks and the arenas compared to Spawn are small bit it means less bullshit and more one on one fighting.
There are alot of points I could touch on about what makes this game so great(especially on VGA) but there were other threads where I went on about it alot.
Well, it took you long enough, Will. :)
Eh, I suppose I could see why anyone would like the game, but calling it "a mix of Power Stone and VOOT" is nothing short of absurd.
...Then again, I'm not even sure if you were the one to say that.
Heheh, been playing Z.O.E all day, GREAT fucking game for 20 bucks, I got into the more I played and the easier you get to manuever Jehuty.Quote:

Well anyways, I think I may have said it plays like a mix of those but that's not an absurd idea. Manipulating the jet pack and your character sort of feels like VOOT's thrusters, moving around motions, although less complex.
I also thought weapons have the VO:OT type looks like Temjin's sword, and many of the other VO:OT character's huge rockets and such. The Powerstone portion is the variety of the weapons and they do have different ranges and parts to play in a fight as well as being able to do regular punch/kick damage.

Ow, that was damn cold... :p
I've heard it play a lot like Spawn. I bought Spawn for $10 about 4 months ago. I'll pull it out some day, to remind myself what a waste of $10 it was.
Ok, ok. I was on crack.
I bought Heavmetal Goematrix as a two player game and all my gameplaying friends are catalysts for drug abuse. Tonight I laid down some tough love and left them to the street while I spent some time with the Chaosmatrix and some singleplayer Arcade modes.
I have to announce an about-face and declare support for the purchase of Heavy Metal Geomatrix :o
especially if you come across it for $10.
every character is EXACTLY the same. They only look different and start off with different weapons. Otherwise, it's a pretty good game (not great by anyone's standards)
if capcom decided to remake spawn, they could take the idea of putting in some -real- balance, use a devil may cry style combat system and put it online, I belive the game could turn out to be huge hit of epic proportions. ;)
well i did come across it for $10.. i have a court hearing tomorrow (don't ask). after i'm done, i think i'm going to buy it and a shitload of other used dc games that i'm missing to treat myself. dc games are all i've been buying anymore... gotta pick up all the good games before you can't find em anymore :/
best of luck with the legal system:rolleyes: ...hope you have a lawyer
anyway, be sure to post back in this thread with your impressions after playing HeavyMetal for a few hours. The opinions really seem to be split on this one
Not correct. Sarge, Hound, Duke, Phantom and Lance are middle tier characters with middle range punch/kick attacks and are slower than the faster characters like Slash, Di, Kassey and Mayfly but faster than the big guys like Halbot, Stab and Zues. Also their running speeds vary as well as each's exclusive weapon.Quote:

Nice game, and worth $20. I've never played Spawn, and I couldn't get into VOOT, but I enjoy HMGM. There are 3 character types: fast ones with little strength, slow ones with power, and middle characters. Plus, they all start with different weapons. Its easy to learn it, and its very fun to play. There is a nice mix between using the weapons (which all have secondary attacks), using hand to hand techniques (you can knock a weapon from your opponent), and dashing and avoiding attacks. The music fits the game perfectly, cheesy metal to go with cheesy fantasy characters.
Heh, what Green said.
