oops, missed a space in the title, oh well
Sounds designed to be the deal Disney always wanted and Square told them to fuck off about.
I think I'm going to be sick.
edit: Well, at least I'll have a specific use for a PS4 now: to play used Star Wars games.
hahahahahahahaahahahaah
e: can't wait to download new lightsabers for 4.99 a pop on the yearly call of jedi
e2: just realized that pc games/ports are probably going to be origin only ahahah
Interesting.Quote:
“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”
Play through a shitty side story with characters you don't care about!
That's why it is glorious ;p
Oh you think "used games" are going to exist for the PS4? That's interesting.
So new KotOR basically confirmed. I'd be surprised if they don't put DICE on a new Battlefront, too.
If they don't, then I'll just pass on all of these the same way I have on NFL games for almost a decade.
I guess this means Mirror's Edge 2 pretty much isn't happening at the same rate it wasn't happening yesterday.
or Rallisport 3
Top developers in the world working on Star Wars games and Yoshi is mad? That's weird.
Should have gone to THQ.
Upon further consideration, this probably doesn't change anything from a PC perspective. Disney's dumb asses never had their games on Steam anyway, e.g. Pure, Split/Second, etc.
Criterion-developed pod racing game plz.
Didn't Criterion recently reveal that they're not working on a racing game?
Criterion-developed Rogue Squadron.
Wing Commander vs Tie Fighter plz
I'd like to see Visceral get another crack at a melee combat game. Dante's Inferno wasn't good but it had potential.
more MGR honestly, as it seems like it'd be the better engine-drop-in for a star wars game since there's already a sword and whatnot
Oh, you said The Force Unleashed. For some inexplicable reason I thought you said 1313, which is closer to Vanquish.
They have to recoup all that money they sunk into TOR somehow.
This could be fantastic news. I'm optimistic.
There is one quote that comes to mind though:
"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as though millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror..."
I don't know its not like Lucasarts didn't do any of that. Hell the only reason to own a Nintendo console for me was their Star Wars game, whichever that happened to be at the time. Jedi Knight was always a PC game, and so were the star fighter sims. Very few of their games actually managed to cross systems.
As for DICE, the only reason I'm interested in them is if they actually decide to make Battlefront 3. I don't care about Battlefront, it's always been a Battlefield rip off to me, but if they do it then it's not a ripoff anymore, and I think they could do great things with it. Of course knowing my luck they'll probably make a new Rallisport based on Tatooine or something instead.
Bioware probably is just more The Old Republic. No idea what Visceral would do. Maybe let you play as Darth Vader in Dead Space 3.
Selling Star Wars to Disney is the worst thing Lucas has ever done, and I've seen Crystal Skull.
the problem isn't the developers, its the EA exclusivity deal
it looks great on paper for the companies and shareholders, but I think EA's days of trying to turn their image around are gone with that CEO that resigned a month ago... I mean, this IP went to the company that somehow managed to royally fuck up sim city beyond an apology (granted it was about 50/50 maxis/EA), and while they do put a lot of money behind their titles it doesn't necessarily mean they'll wind up being any good (again, see: sim city 2013) or cheap to play -- it's pretty much a lock that any non-ToR SW games they do will have DLC down the throat and out the ass at unreasonable-for-the-content prices
vv I don't know I never played them
Eh. EA will make a pile of serviceable games with the Star Wars name on them, nowhere near as good as the review scores indicate but certainly not terrible either. They'll fill up some space on the retail rack and be $20 6 months after release. This news is too bland and uninteresting to be either good or bad.

I'm pretty surprised. I thought for sure Disney's next move was to buy one of the major players in the videogame industry (maybe even Nintendo - if anybody can afford them it's Disney) and then hand Star Wars and Marvel (and the Hasbro properties if that rumor pans out) off to them.
EA has a lot more good games to their name than Lucasarts has for the last few gens, so sounds like a net gain to me.
I'm not a shareholder of either company. As a game fan, I am excited about seeing what developers like Bioware, Visceral, and DICE can do with this license. It's not like it was being well utilized before and those guys make some of the best games out there.
Regarding DLC, whatever. Battlefield 3's Premium DLC is excellent. Bioware puts out great DLC. Judge it when it comes out, as always.
It's not a new guy, the boss is Larry Probst, so probably not.
I don't want to speculate, but I remember when Bioware said that calling the next Mass Effect game "Mass Effect 4" would be doing it a "disservice." I wonder what that means. The timing is perfect for another Star Wars themed RPG.
EA has the resources to make any type of game. If they want to do another TIE Fighter, they can do it. If they want to do a RTS, they can do it. If they want to do a survival horror Star Wars game they can do it. They are also exclusively in the game business, unlike Lucasarts, which went up and down and constantly reorganized over the past decade. I'm no Star Wars fanboy but I really can't see how this is anything but good news for those who are.
And that doesn't get into all the baggage EA brings, like project $10, frivolous DLC, Origin exclusivity, etc.
Other than Mass Effect, EA hasn't published anything I would put anywhere near the top of this generation. Yes, they can do anything, but someone else can do everything better.
Do you really think Lucasarts was doing a good job with the franchise the past generation? We got Force Unleashed, TOR, Star Wars Kinect (one of the worst games ever), and a bunch of Clone Wars and Lego junk. That's it. This just wasn't a priority for Lucasarts. With EA it will be.
Yea maybe on another planet Lucasarts was readying Relic for a Star Wars RTS and Naughty Dog for Star Wars Uncharted and Larry Holland for TIE Fighter 2, but here in the real world, that wasn't happening.
That's fair. Don't give EA ideas though. The last thing we need is them buying more good studios.
Soul Calibur IV is the best Star Wars game of the PS360 generation.
Mirror's Edge wasn't THAT good.
I actually can't believe it but I agree with Yoshi in that one developer having exclusive rights to the SW games is shitty. I get it that Lucasarts wasn't doing much with the IP, but being exclusive to EA isn't an improvement IMHO.
It's a shame Factor 5 is basically dead, The Rogue Squadron series was awesome minus the on foot stuff in the 3rd one.
Nope. Unless Jedi Knight 1 is getting remade, then I'll take whatever EA is going to do over the bevy of developers that make garbage
Here is both an example of LucasArts' stupidity and a game that would have been better than anything EA will make.
I am a huge fan of Avalanche Studios. That proves my point exactly though. Right now we got nothing from that. I'll take some top developers over nothing.
I was actually thinking maybe EA would make the Star Wars open-world game that I'm not sure why nobody's ever done. Finding out that Avalanche had a crack at it and Lucasarts said no makes me glad they aren't overseeing the franchise any more.

This news actually makes me interested in potential SW games. I'd like to see what Visceral comes up with.
So is the consensus that takedown is better than revenge?
I love em both
Yeah, so they can make proper titles for the next Xbox, with Kinect 2 being the only control option.
or do jedi mind tricks with the ps4 touch pad
At least these won't be Wii U exclusive:
That also essentially confirms what I said about there not being a KotOR 3. There are two games plus TOR content.Quote:

Do you realize that your constant bleating about a group that doesn't really exist on this forum is the most obnoxious thing on the forum outside of a few joke accounts that occasionally flare up and then quickly burn out?
No one on this forum is starting threads about how great nintendo is or hijacking other threads to make up praises about the Wii U. Yet you consistently do both to argue the opposite. It's tiring.
When every other poster has to add an addendum to their post in anticipation of some contrary thing you might say, it stops being funny.
Hmm, so the next Mass Effect won't be using the Unreal Engine? Should be interesting to see.
It's actually a new NHL game.
Mos Eisley Alien Hockey League
Naboo Hockey League hockey, its just gungans and naboonians
Predictably, some idiot executive at EA almost dicked up DICE getting Battlefront. They had to ask him about it, since he didn't bother to ask them.
20 cancelled Star Wars games revealed in new book:
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...1&d=1375140246
I'm especially displeased with Scum and Villainy.
I wonder how many of those were the same games? Multiple title treatments aren't a new concept.
I wonder how many of those even went far enough for "cancelled" to be applicable.
Rebel Jedi was barely in the planning stages, though Jedi Rebel made it to alpha.
Oh shit, episode 7 title confirmed! Scum and Villainy sounds like a Star Warsy GTA, set in Mos Eisley. I think I would have dug that.
Also EA today registered, or at least today the internet discovered that EA had registered "Star Wars Attack Squadron" as a trademark.

I'm a little surprise Jedi Knight 3 never made it. The first two were pretty good at the time.
Different thing.
This could be interesting.
Amy Hennig joining Visceral as creative director for their Star Wars game(s) is pretty cool, hopefully it turns out great. I really liked the original Dead Space, haven't played DS2 yet, but even what I saw of Dead Space 3, as an action game with co-op and weapon combinations it seemed fairly interesting and technically sound (although those who played it can speak to that far better than I can). Unfortunately it abandoned the hooks and the atmosphere that made the franchise initially great, there was some micro-transaction garbage, and it sounds like the story was terrible, but maybe making the move to the Star Wars franchise and adding Hennig to the talent at Visceral can really pay off with a great game.
All 3 Dead Space games are very good. The MT stuff in DS3 was totally 100% overblown and don't affect the game negatively at all.
The ironic (?) thing was that Disney canned Star Wars 1313 which looked a lot like Uncharted in the SW universe.
As a huge fan of Hennig, I'm really bummed by this news. I don't really give a shit about anything EA puts out and I couldn't possibly care less about Star Wars.
The series is getting another infusion of talent.
Assassin's creed sucks
Ya but Lukes Fortune: Jedi's Creed is gonna be AMAZING
Hold X and forwards to force navigate a city while you read a book.
Wrong talent.
With those producers combined it should make for a decent movie.
I have to agree with some of the cynics in the comments section, the way the article makes it sound from interviews and the actual gameplay parts that are mentioned seem to be at odds with each other. Judging from what's there it sounds a whole lot like VEGA Conflict, except for the compatibility with a separate game.
he can't it got shitcanned
lol whoops.
The screen shots look nothing like Star Wars, for what it's worth. Outside of the odd Star Destroyer or Jawa it kind of looks like a Space Mexico Sim City.
