The Shadow Warrior remake from Hard Reset dev Flying Wild Hog will release on PC via Steam and other digital services this year and on next-gen consoles in 2014.
The new Shadow Warrior is a re-imagining of the bloody 1997 3D Realms shooter, and is published by Hotline Miami distributor Devolver Digital.
"The team here at Flying Wild Hog are longtime fans of the original Shadow Warrior with its unique combat innovations and distinct setting not seen in shooters at that time," said Michal Szustak, Flying Wild Hog studio head. "The classic arcade-style shooter is a genre we genuinely love, so redesigning the world of Shadow Warrior and the character of Lo Wang has been a fantastic project for the team."
If the gunplay is still there, this would be great. SW had some pretty good guns and explostions . The offensiveness will be gone, for sure

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I liked Hard Reset, but I hope for less of an arena-based FPS and more actual level design for this outing.

Hard Reset is overrated.

I was going to play further into Hard Reset and then Serious Sam 3 came along and kinda slayed the whole genre.

Wasn't the entire premise of this game just a racist Duke Nukem? Why would you even bother with this IP?

Sticky bomb like Frog.
At the very least, we may finally get the original on XBLA when this is about to come out.

Yeah, the IP choice does not make sense. No one even bough the original. But I did really enjoy the original game, so if it is as good as that, I would be happy.

I don't think I've seen enough talk about it to even reach "rated."

It's a game that the PC-only crowd hangs on to as if it is too great for the unwashed console peasants because it's exclusive. You know, how PC fans lapped up any fighting game in the 90s or how some Nintendo fans do with anything resembling a "dark game" or whatever.

Does that happen?

They should remake Decent. It was pretty good.

Whoever does that is an idiot. I love the game but it was obviously designed for a controller from the beginning due to the weapon design, and there's nothing about it that "requires" a PC vs. a console to pull off.

Sure, the Saturn and PSX could have done shitty ports, but that wouldn't have been a good idea unless you got some programming genius working on it lie Saturn Duke Nukem.

I've been trying to get a copy through Goozex or VGFive so I don't have to pay cash for it.

Having played Shadow Warrior recently, it's not as racist as people remember, but it is really fucking hard. That's the thing I expect to change with the new game. Shame it also plays better than Hard Reset.

Not really Decent. It's way more linear.

I didn't correct you because I liked the double meaning, but then Aaron did the same thing and I could no longer tell if it was still on purpose.

I played a bit over half of this game and I'm not feeling it. The encounters tend to be locked areas with floods of enemies, which can be fine if the weapons and enemies work together interestingly enough (Serious Sam 3), but they don't here. There's very little variety in the enemies (this game introduces new shit at a crawl), and while they have some cool behaviors (cutting different arms off causes them to behave differently, etc), it doesn't matter much since they all get destroyed so easily and you've got health (in the form of pickups, enemy health pickups, regen spells) thrown at you 24/7. The weapons don't help alleviate the boredom since there are very few of them so far, they aren't very satisfying, and their upgrades aren't all that interesting save the few katana moves I got early on. And the settings are slow to change, too.
And all of this wouldn't be so bad if the game weren't so long, lol. At least in a compressed version of this game there would be a steady stream of new things to play with to keep my mind off of how samey the encounters are otherwise.

Same. I liked the Rise of the Triad remake better.
