That's fine. I'd pay $100 for a fully unlocked Tekken, and I'd gladly pay $5 to be able to play Street Fighter V with just Vega (or whatever).

I like the idea of letting people that don't want to commit to a full priced game to get into Tekken with just Jin or whatever. And then if they like it they can spend more.

That's why that VF5 thing was so awesome for XBLA/PSN. You could have a little, or you could have a lot. Choices.

Michael Murray just confirmed that there will be gameplay differences from TTT2.

F2P might be okay for fighting games if they have free weekends or something where you can try out all the characters.

Like, maybe you can level your guys up? And there's a super-dodge or something?

it gives you tokens you use to play arcade and online and they reset after so many minutes/hours, you get bonuses for signing on every day; it's like a fucking facebook game

you unlock them by levelling up, I got leo after I hit level 2 or 3

and arcade games are usually "winner stays on", not "winner uses up token to rematch even if they win"

Yeah, I thought that's what you were saying. In that case it's more like every other F2P game ever where once you run out of energy you have to wait or pay. Disappointing.

Everything about this sounds retarded.

It's fun to play. But it should really let me keep playing as long as I keep winning.

Playing Arcade mode with a premium ticket gives you a 6X bonus on Gold and gift points.

If you win using a premium coin (4 for a dollar, or 30 for 5 dollars) then you get a premium ticket, so it is winner stays.

kind of shocked this is a f2p game without many buyable characters or any cosmetic items

Unlocking Characters
Unlockable characters that I've seen are Alisa, Leo, Steve and Bryan and the ONLY way to unlock them currently is via accumulating Gift Points
Heihachi, Jinpachi and Ogre are currently only in the game as CPU opponents in Arcade Mode but considering their data is already "in the game" they MAY be unlockable but I haven't seen anything confirming this personally.

Accumulating Gift Points:
You earn Gift Points via Arcade, Ranked and Player Matches for Arcade and Ranked win or lose you get the same amount but Player Match seems to vary, maybe based off of level(?)
Currently there is an "Early Bird Special" going on right now that is doubling all your accumulated points.

Arcade Mode: 10 Points Per Stage 30 For Final Stage
Player Matches 10~50 Points Per Match
I got 50 for losing but 10 points for winning two matches in a row against low level opponents.
Ranked Matches 100 Points Per Match

Gift Point Unlock Benchmarks:
Properly "documented" Gift Point Unlocks that I've been able to confirm via stream and personally are:
1,000(?) Gift Points: 1st Character (Alisa/Leo/Steve/Bryan)
7,000 Gift Points: 2nd Character (out of the remaining 3)
10,000 Gift Points: 100,000G Reward

I saw someone streaming and they got up to 16,000 without a reward so unless its somewhere in the 17,000~19,000 range I'm guessing the next tier would be 20,000 and then maybe 35,000. (But I don't know because I lose all my matches before I can find out )

Ways to earn Premium Ticket(s) that I've noticed are also as follows

Win 5 Matches (Total)
Win 10 Matches (Total)
Win 30 Matches (Total)
Win a match while using ONLY a Premium Ticket or Coin (refunds your used currency)

Premium Coins
Premium Coins work exactly the same as Premium Tickets they can only be consumed when you have run out of the Token you are attempting to use Arcade or Online. When you win a match you are "refunded" one Token in the form of Premium Ticket to continue playing similar to an Arcade Machine. If you lose you have the option to use another coin or buy more.
The coins can be purchased from the PSN store for in bundles of 4, 10 and 30
4 Coins $.99 (~$.25 each)
10 Coins $1.99 (~$.20 each)
30 Coins $4.99 (~$.17 each)

Winning with regular tokens doesn't win you back anything unless you reach one of the benchmarks.

well I uninstalled it after I got my 45 minutes in and ran out of tokens, but I didn't rage quit any matches per se

p.s. a day 1 paul combo with that flashy blur move shit is d/f+2, 2, d+4, 2, 1+2 (I think that's the notation)

The new week has begun, and with it the early bird points/gold special is over. But everytime you log in you get a sweet picture of PAUL PHOENIX, so it's a fair tradeoff.

Also, Harada just announced on Twitter that they will add a free training mode to Tekken Revolution.

I have a confession to make: I've been playing this... every day. No, I'm not silly enough to actually pay for anything, but I've worked around the token restrictions. I just play it for about 15 minutes before I go to work or whenever I'm going to do something. The game is kind of silly but it's fun, and it's easier to learn how to play with the various changes they made (nerfs to backdash cancels, backwalk actually being usable, all of the effects on "big" lows, etc.). The invincible moves just blow up stance based characters though, which is annoying (BT mixups with Lili are nigh useless now! Bah!).

Bandai Namco's Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada said that the free to play game Tekken Revolution could be heading to PS Vita if downloads for the PS3 version are high.

Mokujin Fest is pretty great, guys. Tons of Mokujin-themed UI changes! Mokujin appears in arcade mode! Fight Tetsujin and Kinjin! New, temporary game mode where you just fight a ton of Mokujin!

And the more Mokujin you beat by Thursday night, the more Gift Points you unlock!

Vampire Girl Eliza to join the roster
Players will need to gather 20,000 "Blood Contract Marks" (契約の血印) to unlock Eliza. This can be likened as it's own separate version of the game's Gift Points. Clearing Arcade mode, Mokujin Rush mode and fighting in Online VS mode will allow you to collect these. Note: the name of the points to unlock Eliza may be different in the Europe or US release.
New Premium Effects for Lee & Christie to be added.
During 12/19 til 1/6, every kind of previous event bonus will be in effect.
From 12/24 til 1/1, a login during the period will net you 3 free premium tickets. (You can only claim this once.)
From 12/27 ~ 1/6 each login for each day will give you an additional 201,400 in game gold. Logging in for all the days in this period will net you a total of 2,014,000 in game gold.

Woman vampire has a mighty power, the live time of eternity. It seems to have born before about 1000, but it is not clear. Where you went to sleep and into the coffin with the intention of nap, and went to sleep for hundreds of years inadvertently. Sometimes only recently from happening yet, you can not control the sleep, fall asleep suddenly.

You can hold 5 online tokens at a time. As soon as you dip below 5 it gives you another one every 30 minutes. By the time you've played 5 matches it's probably been 20 or so minutes. Then run through arcade mode once and you're a minute or 2 away from getting a 6th free match. After that, come back again in 2.5 hours!

If you buy quarters (4 for a dollar or cheaper if you buy in bulk) those quarters are winner stays. You could play off one quarter for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE if you're good enough.

And you sometimes get premium tickets just for signing in, and those are also "winner stays"

I think I've played two people online total on this and while I like it, the model sucks and totally discourages me from playing it more so I'm probably better off just buying the whole Tekken Tag/Tekken [insert series number here] game.

The God of War HD games took like an hour to download and another hour to install, the PS3 is fucking ridiculous with file handling. In fact I turn on the 360 and play it in the meantime.

I think Tekken Revolution is awesome, and I play it all the time, but I still play TTT2 also.

The fact that anyone with a PS3 can download a Tekken game and play it absolutely free is awesome. There are definitely some new players that would have never tried Tekken for & 60. And TR is a simpler game also. There are no "bound" moves (bouncing someone off of the floor to continue the combo), it's one on one only, and there are fewer characters. Having fewer characters makes it easier for new people to learn because there are fewer things to learn how to recognize and defend against.

New characters trickle out slowly so it keeps the game fresh.

There is a character progression system in the game as well. You can build up your health, strength, and crit % as you level up.

There are critical attacks that have a % chance to do more damage.

There are "invincible" moves that can't be interrupted, but if they are blocked leave the aggressor open to any combo you can think of.

There are weekly events where you can earn extra money, xp, and premium tickets. And there are cool events like "Mokujin Festival" where you have a chance to fight Kinjin, the King of the Mokujins.

There is a completely new soundtrack.

And soon, there will be a brand new character!

I second that. The goal of F2P is habitually to ease people into a game with zero hassle. How they determine the quality, if they charge for either accelerators or actual content varies on the game, but for a fighter I think it's a nice incentive.

I play it too and it doesn't feel like a cheap cash-in. It's fun and still varies from TTT2 enough to warrant giving it a shot. And the narcoleptic vampire character they revealed is rad.

I wasn't aware it was free. That makes it considerably more acceptable.

It's also great to be a guy that realizes fighting games include a "block" function so you can trounce the guys that spend tons of time on building levels really easily.

Seriously, so little blocking.
