I agree about early announcing being annoying if it has a far out release date but The Last Guardian and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are outliers compared to games that actually come out.

In recent memory Watchdogs, Destiny, the Division, and certainly The Order all fell prey to announcing early but it's hard to say whether that actually affects sales given Watchdogs sales success even amidst its delays and graphical downgrade controversy. I do hope publishers try to adopt the model that companies usually reserve for hardware for games in terms of announcing and releasing a product within a shorter time frame but then again E3's may not be as exciting or hype inducing without those early announcements.

What do games that came out in May have to do with fall?

You think telling people about The Order years before it's release is what's sold what 6 million PS4s? Besides the fact that the people who make rash purchasing and are sway during periods of extreme hype are also the people who sell their systems at a drop of a hat. Hell look at our very own Chux, I'm not saying he's swayed by periods of extreme hype or a rash purchaser, but he bought a PS4 at launch and has already sold it. Waiting to buy it again when games actually come out. Maybe an extreme system seller like FF back in the day MIGHT get a small percentage of people to buy a system long before the game has released, but do you really think there's MILLIONS of PS4's sold where people are just waiting for The Order to come out.

Personally I'm sick of nothing but Pre-rendered trailers, concept test trailers, or pitch trailers for titles that aren't going to see the light of day for another 2 years. I can understand showing a game when it's a year out, but if you have an inkling it's going to be longer than that, I'm sorry but it's silly. Specially when so much shit now adays either doesn't deliver in some way (visually, gameplay, promised features) or becomes vapourware.

I myself prefer the little leaks that come here and there within a year of release. I loved reading all the leaks of BF4 and then the game officially getting announced 4ish months from release.

Yes, I would say that people's purchasing habits are influenced by marketing of upcoming promised products. Is that really something you've never noticed before? Pretty sure we also have some people on this board who bought a PS3 for Last Guardian.

People are often more reluctant to sell anything they've sunk money into and plan on using in the future, especially since it usually ends up a loss.

Yeah, I would bet money on the majority of launch PS4/XBO purchases were being made for games that weren't out yet like Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Watch Dogs, DriveClub, etc. Don't forget that Watch Dogs and DriveClub were supposed to be near launch before getting pushed back, and a lot of people were expecting to play those titles last year. I certainly don't think millions of people were $450+ excited about Killzone and Knack, though obviously releases of big titles like inFamous and Titanfall provided sales boosts for their systems later on.

You know that has nothing to do with what I am talking about. Any failure on BF was how bad the issues were at launch for every platform. It also had to do with EA pushing out a game that was not ready. Not whether or not they officially announced the game too early or too late.

I'm just talking from an excitement and hype standpoint. I'm just saying that I like the small leaks here and there and then an official announcement within a 6 month time frame of launch. None of this massive buildup for years and then by the time it comes out it is either just a mediocre experience or we've lost interest.

That being said I enjoyed the crap out of BF4 and either never really experienced most of the issues people complained about, or they just never really bothered me.
