Hero is God.
I came REAL close on the SNES track last time
I kinda agree. While Sonic might have more complex mechanics, you kinda have to wrestle with it (especially on high ranks) to get it to sing. The controls in this feel much more fluid and easier to get skilled at or adjust to. For me that has its own merit. As far as endearing...I do think the track layouts are more fun and the locations here feel more like places I'd want to 'visit' than most in Sonic...
Except the Skies or Arcadia track. I think that's in a league of its own.
I'm just as surprised by this jump at the end as anyone.
Skies of Arcadia track I'd the best sonic racers track period.
I don't think anyone was using a headset. The Wii U gamepad has a mic.
I've got one, but the wife was watching tv in the same room so I didn't say much.
To me, there's a difference in one feels more like a 'racing' game even if it has weird stuff (Sonic) and the other does not. I think so far the tracks I have seen in MK might be better overall (slightly, I think both game are all over the map on that one), but the mechanics around actually navigating them (at least to me) are markedly inferior. I think there's 3/4 to a full letter grade difference in quality IMO.
This comparison is exactly like the Hot Shots Vita vs. Mario Golf 3DS one. Mario is absolutely objectively inferior, but growing up on the wrong side of past console wars causes the window dressing to hide that from some people.
edit: That's not to say that both Mario games are not good, because they are.
Pro Controllers are over 40 dollars?
That's what I am using. Not that that seems to help me
Yeah those things retail for $50. At least their battery life is excellent (80 hours). And there are adapters out there that let Pro Controllers work well on PCs.
Chux - Shyguy
Hero - Baby Rosalina
Gohan - Luigi (Also drunk)
Samurai Moogle - Toad.
Yeah, I haven't quite worked out how to drift around that course on the bike.
Uh huh.
Game is starting to grow on me a bit. Now that I know about the boosts on jumps, grav enter/exit, etc
Got a room up, join in!
I want to join but I know the good times will be over in two weeks because I know how TNL TNLs.
Oh shit! I started a Cup, but as soon as I finish I'll jump on to try out the headset.
It's full with 12 pp
Oh and can you not add friends from the Recently Played With screen? Seriously, everything with Friends on this thing seems to be lame.
I just watched Yoshi fuck off into space lol
Apparently in an unfill room, you never get the catch up items, so the guy in front is safe.
edit: I also hate that you can't change karts between races.
So it's no longer the bullshit olympics
but it's still too slow
Mario must be shit
I still have yet to see a lightning or blue shell a single time in single or multi.
Is it the Rocketfish Wii U headset for $4.99 at BB?
Yep, it's a 2.1 padded headset with a built-in mic on clearance for $5.
They also have a GamePad screen protector on clearance for $2.
"I'm using tilt controls!" must be some sort of euphamism
The entire multiplayer game is about getting ten coins first and then running away with it. With how rare the catch up items are, you're golden.
edit: You're way more likely to get hit in eighth or whatever than first.
Exactly. It's not a skill based game, aside from hitting the rocket start and lining up the coins.
I can't believe they didn't add the escape Transformed has.
Does Metal Mario have some asshole powerup that lets him go 1000 MPH for 5 seconds?
Probably
Made a tournament. Runs nightly 6-10pm PST. Code is 0528-2976-7199
Not for nothing, but you seem to feel this way about a lot of games. I remember in Burnout Paradise's infancy you had a lot of complaints as well. I mean, if being critical is part of the enjoyment you get out of it, I get that, but sounds like you could spend more time on Sonic, sell this game, and be happier for it. But whatever works for you.
Well if everyone had Sonic on PC (it's been 7 dollars 100 times now), we would play it :p
This is a fine game. But what Yoshi said isn't wrong at all.
Also, I don't think of BP as a racer so much as a screw around with other people game. That was where all the time went. Granted, I did do all the SP too. I put a ton of time into that game, actually. I've already put more time into MK8 than I expected to at launch. That means I am enjoying myself. I actually want to buy a WiiU headset of all things now.
But it's just not as good of a game as Sonic was and at the top of the list is the thing that I guess people like most about Mario Kart. That's not what *I* like about those kind of games though. And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be high-and-mighty (because frankly, I'm not really that good anyway). But it's a statement of fact.
I don't even know if I have you on Steam, but I've had Sonic for almost a year now! My PC doesn't run it perfect but I'm always up to play it!
I like it a lot but am not quite sure if it's factually better than a lot of these games I've played. I guess it's a matter of my moods. Sonic can be a wrestling match with the controls; Forza feels more like challenging courses because there's so much control to the car's mechanics by the player; Crash Team Racing is still a really memorable kart game...
Mario Kart for me has always felt like a well designed 'Everyman' racing game. It's easy enough to control and get used to, the rules aren't as convoluted as some other games, and people of all kinds of skill levels seem to get a kick out of it. It may not be the best technically in a given iteration, but I think accessibility counts for something.
I get where you're coming from, an glad that you're digging it. Also glad people still like/play Sonic too.
I sent out a bunch of friend requests if anyone's still playing online. My name is = jyoungOS
I have a room up now if anyone wants to join.
Gotta do some work but I'll be on later to try out the tournament I set up.
Was anyone else getting a ton of "communication errors" today? I keep getting dropped out of online games randomly.
I'm also unable to upload any of my Time Trials ghosts at the moment. Other than that, I think I like Time Trials more than the weapon cluster fuck that is 150cc Grand Prix.
Wendy Koopa with the Sports Bike and Roller Tires tears up all the corner-heavy tracks.
Bowser in the Mach 8 with Cyber Slicks is a beast on courses with long straightaways. It looks like Bowser, Morton and Wario all have the same attributes and are the fastest characters in the game.
No communication errors here. Went to Toys R Us and got the Turtle Beach on sale, Best Buy had the $4.99 set so I got one for Brett also.
I was getting communication errors last night too, it seemed to coincide with even my wife turned off Netflix.
I should have turned the Mic on, she was watching Jem and the Holograms.
Wait, you can't chat during the race?
Stupidly they only let you talk in the lobby, no fucking idea why. Did anyone hear me say hello when we played early? I assumed not since no one responded.
I didn't.
Jesus christ they limit chat to friends only and don't even let you talk during the race?
I don't even know why I'm surprised.
That's Nintendo for you - they improved this over anything the last Mario Kart did for online, but still a world behind 99% of online games out there.
I wish I knew that before I spent even $7.50 on a headset. It's not like I'm likely to use it with anything else. Maybe I can flip it for a profit when Smash Bros. comes out.
Steam wins again
lol I could use my wireless headset and ventrilo instead.
I'm not going to go back and read this thread, but has everyone registered their game for the free game through club nintendo?
Not yet waiting for the rush to die down.
I'm waiting for the Club Nintendo year to end, since this promo goes until July 31.
DNG and I did Hero's tournament. dumb.
Yeah, I did it too, and I got my ass handed to me. I obviously need to practice a bit more. lol. I was "Mr. Tanner."
How was it dumb?
I'm gonna give it a go now then get back to work stuff
Edit: welp, waiting for one other person to show up is a little dumb... :/
It just loops through a 8 race GP
I set it to 8 races so people could play, compete, and jump out if they wanted. The time is just to have a window for people to jump in and participate. I could make the GP longer, didn't know if anyone would have wanted something like that.
I made a room.
battle mode is stupid
Yeah, that was the fucking worst. Why is it even in there in that state?
Well we stopped.
I already turned off WiiU :(
Race time!
I am starting a room.
For those who were wondering, the star rating system is based only on GP points:
54 = 1 star
57 = 2 stars
60 = 3 stars
I laughed much harder at that than I probably should have
I think I've only gotten 3 stars when I had 60 Points as well, but I don't know the rest.
I wish the fucking developer would just SAY what it is.
Yeah, I agree that 60 points is a requirement for three stars, but I don't believe it's the only one.
I gave up on trying to get them on 150CC since it's just stupid clownery.
That's the problem I had with 7. It's like playing Russian Roulette.
I felt that way for a bit, until I changed up what I was doing and used ShyGuy (Or any lightweight) with the Jet/Yoshi/Sport bike, off-road tires and non-standard glider.
Came in first by a good margin, even with shell fuckery.
I'll have to try those tires, as the bikes feel awful to me, and I obviously want to use the Yoshi one.
I HATED the bikes at first, now I won't use a kart.
Other news! 1.2 Million copies sold over the weekend. With 6 Million Wii U's sold that's almost a quarter of the install base in the first few days. I'm interested to see the console numbers after this as well, that bundle was a steal of a deal with the game, and extra game in it.
Edit: It's also the fastest selling Wii U game, which is interesting.
This game looks like it would just make me want to play f zero.
Good, go play it and shut your god damn mouth.
I'm sure it will move systems but it isn't a game-changer. I mean, I think the Gamecube sold 5x as many copies in its lifetime.
Granted, I don't think there's much room for three consoles anymore so I think back when MS was talking about the Wii60 and Nintendo scoffed at it, Nintendo probably would like the 'PSU' now. I think that's a valid combo for a lot of people.
Not for me, since I ball hard.
Not for me, since I waste money.
There you go.
No but seriously all three consoles will have good games. I probably overpaid 100 on each system though. Two of them are already true since they have had drops, PS4 is TBD.
So you don't waste money on all these video game trinkets?
Considering my total console system expenditure for this generation is going to be $220, I'm at least limiting the waste.
