That's what I'm doing. I know ShinMyk and AstroBlue are playing along with myself. Brettmatic might be on, and a few other Rampant Fronting kids are too. I'll be using 360 party chat to talk, but if you can't get in on that it's NBD.
Should be fun!

No party chat for me!
Womp womp. Will still be fun.
I'm gonna shell you so hard.
Room is up, chat room is up.
Good turnout!
Your mom was a good turnout.
I get it. Game is still open, also like my mom.
It's a real shame the Wii U isn't a legit big boy system so we didn't have to use Party chat to talk, other than that it was a great time, topped out at 11 people and then we played MonHun WHAT THE FUCK WII U.
Astroblue, Jesus Christ. There were races where I never even saw him.
It was fun! The net code on this game is amazing. It's like one of the first games were I am yet to experience lag or being hamstrung for being Australian.
EDIT: LOL

Is party chat still restricted to gold members? I didn't use it becuase I have 360 and Wii U hooked to the same TV, but I didn't think of the audio still working since I do have a headset for 360. I tried talking through the mic on Wii U, but I wasn't sure if people heard me or not. That was a blast, though. I used Rosalina with the Circuit Special and slick tires, but I might do Wario on a bike during another match. I almost feel guilty using Wario since he calls me a cheater just for choosing him. lol
Not sure if gold is still needed for party chat. Only one way to find out IMO.
I checked and it's still Gold only. However, I do have a two week trial code that came with Tomb Raider.
Write a letter to Mr. Fils-Aime and tell him to add voice chat to WiiU
This is a lame meme. Well, it's probably just me overreacting to people going apeshit over it.
Also that convention gat dayum
Too much gesturing with the arms. He should be letting the eyes tell the story.

No more egregious than Duracell batteries in Pikmin 2.

May 2015?! Why so fucking late?
Keep the game relevant due to their overall thin release schedule
Whatever. It's like half a Mario Kart. :P This is also probably stuff that wasn't quite ready to be announced
Smash Kart, finally. :D
Wow. First and foremost, I'm surprised this leaked. I know the idea of Mario Kart 8 DLC has been bandied about, but I hadn't really considered it all that much. It certainly appears to be the case however, looking great such that I'm very likely buying this. Wonder if this ties into the Amiibo integration that's been announced.

Massive Mario Kart 8 DLC Packs Add 16 New Courses, Plus New Drivers and Karts
Link, Isabelle and Animal Crossing Villager All Get Ready to Race
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Two new downloadable content packs will take the world of Mario Kart 8 in directions the franchise has never seen before, while significantly expanding game-play options. The packs, which launch this fall and in spring of 2015, and are available for advance purchase starting Aug. 27 at $7.99 each (or $11.99 for both), deliver a ton of new content, including first-time crossover characters like Link from The Legend of Zelda franchise and both Isabelle and the Villager from the Animal Crossing series.
In addition to these two new downloadable content packs, a previously announced game update goes live Aug. 27 that adds a variety of new features, including three free Mercedes-Benz cars that players can race: the modern Mercedes-Benz GLA, the 300 SL Roadster from the 1950s and the legendary Silver Arrow of the 1930s. Go to http://ninten.do/6181WR6B to view a video of the in-game karts in action.
“More than 1 million Wii U owners in the United States alone are already enjoying the fun of Mario Kart 8,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Mario Kart 8 already includes the largest number of characters, karts and options of any Mario Kart game to date, and these amazing expansion packs give players even more choices.”
Each pack will contain two new cups, each with four courses, which, in total, increases the number of currently available courses by 50 percent. The DLC packs include classic courses like Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as new courses, some taking place in the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. New vehicles will also arrive with each pack, including the Blue Falcon kart representing the F-Zero franchise in the first DLC pack.
Mario Kart 8 owners who purchase both packs starting Aug. 27 will get access to eight new colors of Yoshi and eight new colors of Shy Guy to race with immediately. To purchase the packs in advance, users with a broadband Internet connection can click the new “Shop” icon in the game or visit the Nintendo eShop on Wii U.
The DLC packs are scheduled to include the following:
Pack 1: The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 (Release Date: November 2014) - $7.99
3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link
4 Vehicles
8 Courses
Pack 2: Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8 (Release Date: May 2015) - $7.99
3 Characters: Villager, Isabelle, Dry Bowser
4 Vehicles
8 Courses
Pack 1 + Pack 2 Bundle - $11.99
6 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link, Villager, Isabelle and Dry Bowser
8 Vehicles
16 Courses
As a bonus for purchasing both packs bundled or individually, buyers receive eight new colors for Yoshi and Shy Guy. Those who advance purchase both packs can begin using the Yoshi and Shy Guy characters immediately.

$12 for the bundle is ace.
I'd be completely all for it if not for the storage requirement. I really want to avoid getting an external hard drive, as I don't want to undergo any potential hassle associated with it (like not being able to keep games saves on the system, as Johnpv unfortunately knows) nevermind having things more cumbersome than they need to be.
Wait what? How else would you imagine they'd do it?
Don't get me wrong, it makes sense, what with the new content.
I'll probably bite the bullet and pick up an external HD by November. It was likely going to happen eventually I suppose, what with the many Virtual Console games I'd like to get and future updates/patches to games.
I noticed this Seagate HD on Amazon, recommended/tested by Nintendo, seems pretty good for a fair price. Hard to imagine needing 2TB though.
$12 for all that sounds good to me.
Personally right now I say fuck Seagate. The external that died on me was a Seagate one. In doing some research Seagate right now has terrible reliability, with something like an almost 30% failure rate with in 3 years. I replaced it with a Toshiba Canvio Desk, and I have an empty external case that I'm going to drop a 1TB WD Black into. That way once a month or something I can back up my Wii U external drive.
Back on topic, 12 dollars to double the amount of tracks it's really fucking good. This is basically an old school expansion pack.
The price is incredible for the content, no doubt.
Geo, did you get a deluxe, or the white Wii U. I've got the Deluxe and I have MH3U, SM3DW, Pikmin 3 and oodles of VC games and I'm good on space still.
Hard drive manufacturers gonna be hard drive manufacturers. The way I see it, they're all like this on and off. I actually got two Seagate externals over the past three years because WD drives kept failing on me. Maybe it's just a crapshoot!
MH3U, Zeldar Waking Wind and Game & Wario + downloads for me and I'm not much different. Maybe he just hates physical media.
Oh yeah, I have WWHD also. I should probably play it.
Seagate seems to be excessively worse than the others right now.

http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-conten...-attrition.jpg
Which worries me since I have 2 Seagates in one of my raids, think it might be time soon to replace them with WDs.
I don't feel enough attention is being paid to the important part of the DLC:
Attachment 74933
It's only $1.50 per color!
Not to keep going off-topic about this, but
White. It's been fine for the indie games, VC games, and updates so far.
Thanks for this and the info in your next post, will definitely keep in mind.
This new MK8 content looks fantastic and I want to play it.
Don't forget you can use a flash drive. I'm leaning toward just getting a 64B one of those and calling it a day. I don't expect tons of digital stuff on the platform. I'd love to just use my old 60GB PS3 drive, but I don't think I have an external casing for it.
edit: I found on of these in my closet that I forgot I had:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812232002
I guess I'll see how long my old PS3 HDD lasts unprotected using that.
Some games may have issues with flash drives. Not all flash drives are created equally, and for some games you'll want something with a fast enough write speed. Supposedly some folks were having issues on Neogaf with flash drives and MK8, since it writes replays to the drive at the end of each race or during, some folks were having lock ups when the race ended. They switched to either internal storage, or an actual hdd and the problem went away. So just be aware of that.
Best Buy had a 32GB Sandisk USB3.0 stick for $12 yesterday. I almost bought it until I remembered I have way more flash drives than I need. HOWEVER! The other 32GB stick I have works just fine in my Wii U, should I plan on going over.
I would buy a flash drive for the WiiU. But never an external HD. Probably
Wait for a sale, buy a gigantic hard drive, never think about it again.
eh I just don't want things all over the place. Gotta have cables, cords, blah blah blah
I have way too much of that stuff, and I likely won't be getting much Nintendo digital stuff, so a 64GB stick is cool by me
but if it doesn't work, then pft crap on em
I think when I get a PS4 I'll put a 2TB drive in it, get an external case, slap the default PS4 500GB drive in that, and hook it up to the Wii U. Sound like a plan?
No.
yes
Behold the majesty that is... The Master Cycle!

I can't wait to run that fucking elf off the road.
Straight out of a 1990's toy line that doesn't know when to stop. I'm picturing that alongside Tec Shield Link and Sky Escape Ganon.
Can the Hylian shield block a blue shell?
This is the best Nintendo promo video ever until the furries show up:
Yoshi's what one might call a "Scaly".
Precisely.
or "Lizard Pervert"
"Pervert Lizard" is probably more correct.
When do we discuss if furries or scalies are allowed to vote?
:tu:
I love that they are doing more tracks and characters outside Mario, I always wondered why they didn't.
Hell yeah! That Excite Bike track looks rad, and the music in that stage is pure nostalgia. This is going to be the first time I've ever purchased DLC for any game.
DLC Pack 1 coming November 13th:
Rad Mii racing suits from amiibo figures:
What time is Mario Kart 8 x Legend of Zelda DLC available in North America?
It's out now, and it's rated M for Mature.
Attachment 75459
So the Excitebike, F-Zero, and Hyrule Castle levels are great, but all these other tracks are pretty weak.
And I don't care for any of the three characters in this pack. Link just ain't my style.
I would have preferred to see the return of Mario Kart legends, Funky Kong and Dry Bones, instead of another fucking Mario and Peach reskin.
Also, why isn't Link riding a real horse instead of this lame metal bike?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejxyt5zYdps
played through all the tracks; then played some F-Zero GX and wept a little.
I played this game a bit more and, umm. It looks great but I don't think it is that good.
It's not! That's the real secret
Still, I might grab the DLC.
The game is not very kind to light characters. I found Toadette completely unplayable.
Ditto, though the DLC track are well done. I like how the healing parts of Mute City give you coins instead. I could not care less about Link or the Mario Furries.
edit: It makes me wonder if Mario Kart is headed down the Smash Bros. path where its focus will continue to shift to fan service over gameplay.
I like the way the karts handle but the track design is weak and the game structure is pretty awful. The 150cc mode is a complete shit show.
I would love to see this game's control married to the tracks and modes in Sonic Transformed.
I like it because it is pretty.
Shyguy is light, right? I never had any issues with him.
This DLC would be much better if Link had his own unique set of powerups:
- Deku nut instead of green shells
- Slingshot instead of red shells
- Fire arrows instead of the fire flower
- Bombchu instead of bob-omb
- Link's boomerang instead of the boomerang flower
- Rupees instead of coins
- He feeds Epona carrots instead of using mushrooms to get a quick boost
- Up-close sword attacks replace the piranha plant
- Link repeatedly fires his hookshot at nearby objects and slingshots himself forward instead of turning into a bullet bill
- The Song of Storms and a rain shower play whenever he uses lighting
- Fairies swarm around him and the fairy music plays instead of the normal superstar effects
- Sheik's smoke bombs blind enemies' screen instead of the squid ink
- The moon from Majora's Mask crashes down onto the leader instead of a blue shell
- Link plays The Song of Time to repel blue shells instead of using the super horn
That would just be confusing.
I think this is a good idea, and something they should consider for Mario Kart 9. Unique powerups for each character would make the series a bit more fresh again, and it would encourage people to unlock/play as every character to see their unique move set. For the next game they, at the very least, have to take a play out of Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed, and have characters/courses from all Nintendo franchises available from the start.
I don't think it would sway anyone that wasn't still playing to keep playing and it requires more development time
MK9 should go 3x as fast.
Why not just ditch the Super Mario Kart game structure and make an interesting SP mode that you need skill instead of random luck to go through, and that is interesting with new modes instead of an annoying grind? Lots of racing games have good single player modes these days. This one has one of the worst.
Besides the rupee thing actually happening, the item roulette plays the chest opening theme and the interface is slightly Zeldafied. I was plenty amused.
Then again, Burnout Paradise won DLC forever and I just assume nothing will ever top it. Maybr it's ruined my expectations? When something goes as well as the Mario Kart DLC, I'm pretty damn content.
I've been having fun with the DLC, although I never really stopped playing this to begin with. Just an online race or two a night or two a week.
I love the Master Cycle design because as a derpy artist guy, I think 'solving' what Link rides in without being lazy and throwing him on Epona is pretty impressive. But I also think all the cart/bike designs for this game have been some of the best in the series period.
I like all the new tracks too, each to varying degrees. It's good to playing Yoshi's Circuit again, Mute City's neat, and even the new-new tracks are fun.
What I have noticed though is that all 8 courses feel shorter than the original 32. I don't if it's just perception or they really are that way.
So far, it gives me faith the second pack will at least be on this level. And to get essentially half the content of the whole game added on for only $12, it's not too shabby. I've bought way worse DLC for that little.
All the tracks in this game are way too short.
3 laps at 40-50 seconds per lap is obviously what they wanted in their designs, but I just don't like races being that short.
I much prefer a 5-minute race over a 3-minute race.
I really like the new tracks.
This game is boring as fuck to play by yourself, though. Longer races and less blue shells at the finish line of the last race to ruin your 3 stars would be a big improvement for single player.
Seriously.
They could fix it easily by just having the loot pool for 1st position being 33% megahorns, 33% coins and 33% banana/shell/mushroom. They could take the ability to damage players with the megahorn away and just make it a skill based (timing) shield to kill shells to prevent abuse.
Or they could just take the shitty blue shell out of the game since no one likes it.
Not likely, they clearly likes the blue shell and made it their collector's edition prize.
Way too many blue shells all around, as Diff said 150cc is a shitshow.
Goddamn if this game isn't gorgeous, though. Jesus Christ.
I haven't stopped playing this game since May, and it's 90% just to gawk at the visuals. It's on par w/ a Pixar flick imho
