Some of those reviews ramble on for pages about a ton of shit I don't care about and has nothing to do with the game. I guess they were going for the look of someone making a zine 20 years ago who fell asleep on the photocopier's contrast button?
I agree with some of their made up numbers and disagree with others. When they make a non-shitty website I might bother to read more.
I tried reading the Mario Galaxy review and couldn't make it past two paragraphs. When I scrolled down to the score it took like 10 minutes, holy shit.
I remember when they first started that site and it had like three reviews up. It sucked then and it sucks now.

In many ways my 8 bit dream for a combat racer or at least far better than Mach Rider or Knight Rider. Standard fare for controls except pressing up fires missiles, down squishes your car ( only good for random patches of rocks on the road). Weapon upgrades, branching paths within levels, bosses, and a machine most certainly equipped with a 8 ball knob on the stick shift. Seriously future cars should be all about spikes.
I snagged DOA5 and UMVC3 for Vita. I don't even remember playing DOA4 but I own it so I know I have. Much like MK9, DOA5 looks more like a last-gen game on the system and has a surprisingly robust story mode, although unlike MK9 the story is complete garbage and they don't even pretend to have reasons for half the match-ups. Someone will show up, walk away, and then I'm fighting them. Wait, if they left why am I fighting them? I wouldn't normally care either way but they took the time to show off a cutscene detailing this thing, so there's got to be something going on. Also: DOA is a series of initials. It's not a word. Stop saying "doe-eye" and "doe-eye tech."
UMVC3 is a pretty great port, although it highlights an issue I didn't notice before of the d-pad and analog being so close that the analog is constantly getting in the way of my thumb doing moves. I can barely do shoryuken motions without shoving the analog around at the same time, which naturally ruins whatever I'm doing. Pretty sure I can get used to it but it's still kind of annoying. I think it's hilarious that you can turn the Vita into a cheat device if you also own the PS3 version. I really need to fire up my 360 version.
Far Cry 3 is starting to annoy me. I like the game for the most part, but I like to sneak through the jungle feeling all stealthy and cool, and I keep running into big jungle animals. In what crazy world does a tiger take MORE THAN 7 POINT BLANK HEADSHOTS FROM A SNIPER RIFLE to go down? I've died about 10 times in the same area trying to take down one of these fuckers. I have emptied an entire SMG clip into it's face before it decides I was bothering it and fucking eats me. I had no idea the guns shot friendship bullets!
Sounds like the first game to me. I was really enjoying the jungle and soldiers bit and then suddenly wacky superpowered creatures show up and it all went to shit.
It's kind of the point of the game. You stick to the roads and deal with soldiers or brave the jungles and deal with animals. I haven't had problems with tigers - you can use certain injections to help you in those battles though.Quote:

Guacamelee! - as a "Metroidvania" it is pretty bad. Level design is rote, upgrades aren't very interesting, and the combat is unsatisfying. But it's really pretty. It just makes me want to play Super Metroid or SOTN again though.

I would strongly disagree about the combat in Guacamelee.
I am 60% through the original Heretic. It's a typical Raven game, don't veer too far off an existing game and keep it enjoyable. They added an inventory system (and alt-fire) to Doom. Circle-strafing the the old school version of 'run out of cover, kill one enemy and then run away to fill your health and repeat'
If you're playing old-ass Doom engine games you should give Strife a try.

Divekick seems like the kinda thing where I'd say, "oh, I get the joke" the first time I played it and then never pick it up again.
It looks like it's quietly EXTREMELY TECHNICAL, like Joust. I want to get it.
Joust is a great comparison.
The joke part of Divekick is godawful. Enough to make one want badly and hopelessly to dislike the game.
I'd be a lot more into Divekick if not for the 'FGC' in-joke pandering.
It's almost prohibitively bad. Almost.
I like it, but yeah, outside of the visual and audio style it's not great. There's nothing bad about it but the gameplay is all just kind of there, and the combat lacks a real punch. I think removing the gigantic unnecessary delay from throwing would help a lot, as would doubling the enemy count and taking their ideas further. The swapping back and forth between planes for jumping puzzles is great but is always over too quickly and then ignored for huge stretches, and the enemies on different planes at the same time is a cool idea but feels a little disjointed and unfinished. There's definitely an awesome game hiding in there, but it feels like the developers didn't have the balls to go all-out and just kept restraining themselves to make sure five-year-olds could play through without a problem.Quote:

Yea, I definitely noticed the throw delay. There are weird delays and lags all over the control that makes the game feel far worse than it should be, for example roll to an uppercut just feels all sorts of wrong. Actually uppercut to anything is off. It's the sort of thing 16-bit developers could do in their sleep.
The color-coded block thing is like my first metroid. These upgrades are supposed to be organic and fit into the world.
Shadow Complex figured all this stuff out and that game is old as shit now.

Lionheart (Amiga): Good Legendary Axe/Rastan type slasher with Henk Nieborg (Flink/Lomax/Contra 4) on graphics detail. Rivals a lot of 16-bit console games from the time and even some X68000 ones. Rockin' BGM.
Soccer Kid (Amiga/AGA): Along with Samurai Shodown, it was one of my faves on 3DO while I had that system. While the 3DO's voices are missing (like the sheep going "BAA" and the farmers grumbling "Gidawff my land!"), the graphics and sound still hold their own (I actually like the chiptunes over the redbook, they're that good).
Shadow of the Beast (JPN Megadrive): Forget the EA version, this is definitely better. Just goes to show what difference a lot of tweaks here and there make. While still quite difficult, it's easier than the Amiga version which is frigging hard.
Xexex (arcade): Having finished the first loop on 2 credits, I should be able to clear it on 1 soon.
I've been playing Mario and Luigi Dream Team for the 3DS this week. I'm about 14 hours into the game now, and it's pretty solid so far. These Mario and Luigi RPG games never seem to disappoint. My only real complaint is that they really seemed to play it safe with this game, and it's getting to be time where they need to start adding more to the formula to keep the series fresh.
I've been playing Cookie Clicker for like, 2 hours.
Fall of Cybertron: Awesome, awesome game. It's got excellent visuals and gameplay, a great story, terrific voice work, and I GET TO PLAY AS FUCKING GRIMLOCK. The last part alone should have made it contender for GOTY. Alas, robotic dinosaurs don't count.
Dead Rising 2: Case Zero
I was happily enjoying this, finding all the parts and planning the fastest way to run through the whole thing. Then on my final run suddenly the handlebar bros. don't feel like showing up. Oh look, now the bowling alley sluts are conspicuously absent. Bob doesn't feel like talking.
Now instead of having fun I'm scouring the internet reading about spawn times and re-entering areas to force the game to load characters. Some bullshit right here.

It's weird, but even though the series is so obviously unrealistic for gameplay sake, I felt the first game was a little too much. It's not weird, the first game was a really bad mesh of the characters and story of National Treasure with the combat sensibilities of Commando. It's jarring and nonsensical at best, but usually just boring lock-you-in-a-room-and-vomit-waves-of-enemies like the crappier Metal Slug games. The second one does a much better job of integrating things.
I said when I played U2 that they figured out a way to make those awesome cutscenes and QTEs playable. No small feat, and nobody else has done it.
